The carbine I will be looking at today is a 4-44 Inland. The barrel to me is blued. All markings are clear 4-44 ,P,Inland General Motors. The gun looks like it is all original. Correct non sanded stock. Rear sight milled adj. Barrel is smooth. Did Inland ever in that time frame blue their barrels?
No, it should be parkerized. There were some blued Inland barrels and receivers early in production, but they phased that out in the Spring of 43 for the most part. Later on, Inland barrels were a dark greenish color bordering on black. If you have any doubts about original Inland barrel finish then take the stock off and look at the area right in front of the gas cylinder to see if there's a shadow there where the barrel band was pulled all the way back and then finished. Does this Inland have a type two barrel band on it or a bayonet lug?
I bought the gun today. The barrel is blued or black park. All the parts trigger group, hammer, blued bolt, blued trigger, slide, stock, are correct for the time and marked Inland. Had a carbine collecter look at the gun. He said his two Inlands were also dark blued or black park. Has push button safety. Will post pictures on Gun Boards this week. If barrel is not correct I hope I didn't pay to much. I got it with a Inland 15 and two after market 30 round mags. 70 rounds ammo and a repo case. 900.00. Barrel gauges .5.
Don't be in a hurry to change it out. The park should be dark, almost black in color. The lower portions of the receiver and the barrel from the receiver to the gas cylinder will usually have a glossy finish that will look like its blued. It seems Inland did not media blast those areas thus the upper surfaces of the receiver and barrel from the gas cylinder to the front sight will have a rougher, almost frosty look to the parked finish. Inland made the switch from Dulite to parkerizing sometime early in 1943.
Serial number?

N marked front sight. Type 2 barrel band with a triangle with two lines. Serial # 5,120,746. M no line marked mag release. 4-44 barrel.
Notice the flat finish on DaveHH picture. If shiny or smooth then may be a Bavarian return.
