There are two thumbscrews that hold the bracket on. They should only be finger tight and you should check them frequently during a range session. If a ham fisted ape put pliers on them and cranked them down past tight, You may need to pad them with some leather and carefully back them off the same way.
It's like phoning up the garage and asking them why your car won't start. What part is stuck? Is it the thumbscrews? The front spigot jammed....... Or what?
Good deal. Be sure and check to make sure whoever overtightened them didn't bend the shaft of the thumbscrews. I've seen a few like that. When you assemble it from now on, always tighten the front and then the rear in that order. Finger tight only!
Good advice from the sages as PL had alluded there have been instances where ham fisted snipers have over-tightened the thumb screws and snapped the shaft and that my friend is terminal for the rifle/scope until people like PL repaired it mind you there would be a fair bit of paper work and the sniper may or may not find himself doing picket duty for a while.....
thanks for the advise. inspected the shafts and it all looks good. gave me a good scare today because i thought some former lazy owner didn't want to keep removing the scope and welted the thumbscrews to the mounting pads. they even removed the rear leaf so they can easily remove the bolt without removing the scope.
Not all had that mod done Sentry mine has not had it done bit painful at times but then again the rifle does not get shot that often maybe 2-3 times a year max even longer now as our range was closed due to the core of the stop butts having the core exposed so hopefully after a 14 month hiatus we may be shooting there within 4-5 months Govt wheels turn very slowly as the Army owns the range.
