I believe it’s for a Browning aircraft machinegun?

Does anyone know how it attaches at the front? I have searched online, but can only find poor quality small pictures that don’t help much.

Are the steel rods supposed to be bent or should I straighten them?

No, the rods should be straight. You're missing part of it...you know that though. It's the kind that mount the ANM2 in Helldivers and Dauntless aircraft...

IIRC, it was made to adapt .303 wing or turret guns for land use.

The double mount used on the Dauntless and other aircraft looks similar from a distance. Here’s a close-up.

There is a front mounting missing which would bolt to the moveable bracket on the front of the body.

I wonder if your mount was intended to mount an aircraft MG on one of the various types of small fast motor launches; in other words for marine use? I believe that they were quite keen on using aircraft MGs on such allied high speed boats during WW2. Another alternative is a mount for mounting an aircraft MG on on a vehicle such as a Jeep.

I agree, that looks closer... I had a .303 gun in Gagetown that I rigged a mount group from a .30 cal to accept it. I had to use a rigged up firing system too. I had 100 rds of .303 reloads that I ran through it in two bursts, stopped the MG line dead when they heard it. All old experienced hands, they suddenly had a new interest. I only separated one casing during that 100 rds, that's why it stopped...shot the links straight out into an ammo crate...

This is how it should like. The reason it's missing is that most were left attached to the gun. Gun broker listings for the 303 browning often has these parts in the kit. It is South African in origin.
