Dear Sirs currently in the process of buying an Enfield no 4 mk 1 would very much appreciate your help in identifying the stamps /markings on it to explain the date and history etc.
but how do I attach the photos ?(I’m new & knocking on & a bit of a technophobe so my children tell me !😂)

At first glance posting photos may seem far more complicated than it actually is. There are several ways of doing it but the method that I use is to take the photos directly off my computer and attach them to my post. Hopefully this tutorial should help you:

It looks like it may be a No4T sniper variant.
It was manufactured by RoF (Royal Ordnance Factory) Fazakerley (Near Liverpool) in 1942
It has a non-standard part fitted (the suffix A in the part number as a 'warning' to an armourer that he may need a non-standard part to replace something on the rifle).
It was sold out of service (the >< below the letter S)
It has UK civilian Proof marks (BNP)
Value with transit case and all CEF (complete equipment schedule) somewhere between £4000 & £6000
This is the CES with my RAF No4T
If the OP has a genuine Faz 4T he's found the proverbial unicorn......
Is the No32 Mk1 attached to the rifle by civvy mounts?

What exactly does sold out of service mean?

Sold out of service is the Military mark to say it has officially been deleted from their records and is no longer owned by the Queen (or King) and is 'free to sell' into the civilian market.
Nick, your rifle could be a genuine & very scarce Faz 4T but it could equally have been assembled from original parts (or possibly repro parts in the case of the body pads). Could you send us some photo's of the receiver side wall showing the body pads (mount bases) with the scope & bracket removed? Also any markings on the receiver side wall & on the bracket & so forth? That will help us to give you some more precise info on your rifle.
Incidentally, it looks to me like the rear thumb screw on your scope bracket may well be of Canadian manufacture......just an aside. I think the bracket itself is probably Scottish!

interesting, I am purchasing this rifle as I need a good shooting Enfield.
When I get it I will take some better pictures which I shall post &
listen to what your final prognosis is (if there is such a thing) .. the only historical info I have on the rifle it has been sold on behalf of a collector who is very particular regarding his weapons & their provenance?🤔
