The 92nd Infantry Division was the only African-American infantry division that participated in combat in Europe during World War II. Other units were used as support. It was part of the U.S. Fifth Army, fighting in the Italian Campaign. The division served in the Italian Campaign from 1944 to the war's end.

Think it may have been a photo opportunity Jim with what you noticed (well spotted) all the other bodies standing behind them on the skyline like being at a picnic, somehow I doubt if the enemy is close by.
Yes, of course staged. But still he loaded the gun and didn't tap the cover when closing it...drills... I've seen the pic many times, it always stood out to me.

And there are safety drills when you do not load your weapon for a photo op when there are your people down range.

It is absolutely incredible to me that they designed this so long ago! Such a beautiful design. I love old school semi-auto and full auto designs. The inner workings of this is just as beautiful as an M1 in my opinion
