I had a wonderful spinster aunt who passed on her love of modelling to me 65 years ago when as a child I helped her with a B24 and B29 model. My first attempt by myself was putting together an Airfix Supermarine Walrus and struggled greatly with the wing struts. My first passion in modelling was aircraft and before long the ceiling in my bedroom was the scene of a never ending dogfight between Fokker DVIIs and Albatross D.IIIs vs SPAD S.VIIs and Sopwith Camels with the odd P38 Lightning or Spitfire making an extemporaneous pass through the brouhaha. Unfortunately very few models survived Hallowe'en as firecrackers were still legal in Canada back then and the urge to blow stuff up was overwhelming, a personal trait I ascribe to my eventually joining the Engineers.
