Breaking news of a man opening fire at the Holocaust Museum in D.C.. Reports have the man having either a rifle or shotgun and opening fire near the security checkpoint. Gunman aprehended (possibly shot) and reports of up to three people injured, unsure if gunman included.
Hopefully, no one dies. The District's emergency services have elevated their threat level.

At least two people were shot after a man opened fire inside the national Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., Wednesday, officials said.
The suspect has been arrested, according to a law enforcement source.
Reports said the suspect first shot a security guard, and that another guard returned fire, wounding the alleged shooter.
There are conflicting reports about how many people were wounded. Another law enforcement official said three people were shot, but that there are no fatalities.
"The scene is secure," the source said.
Police and other law enforcement, including the FBI's Terrorism Task Force, are surrounding the museum site.
The Holocaust Museum is a popular tourist destination, located south of the National Mall and near the Washington Monument.

Now hearing the shooter is, get this, 89 years old! Of course they're saying he's anti-semitic (ya think?) The guards shot him, supposedly in the head.
I wouldn't even want to guess what this fellows motives might be. I strongly suspect that he is unbalanced and crazy people do crazy things. So it is very hard for us sane folks to figure out what a crazy person is thinking, now if you can it might mean that you too are nuts.
So I will hold off guessing what this loon was thinking.
Sounds like the situation was well handled with a minimum about of damage done to all given the danger of the situation. I do believe that an ' atta boy ' might becoming to the guard who stopped the old timer.

This guy was a felon in possession of a firearm. He also had a website where he posted his amazing theories. If the "system" had the resources to pick him up he would have been behind bars and his firearms would be scrap metal.
The security guards did pretty well, engaged the guy, shot him down, got the civilians out of the way. It could have been a lot worse. I hope there's some recognition for the securities, and I hope the dead one's family never has to go hungry, or worry about the rent.

If you look at this from a slightly different perspective...what you have is an aging whack-job with a flair for the overly-dramatic, orchestrating his very own "Gotterdamerung" in a place that was the focus of his pathology culminating in a "Suicide-By-Cop"! Pathetic! The only tragedy was the guard he killed.
And he had a rifle under a complete prohibition due to a Federal felony conviction in a community with the most draconian gun restrictions in the Nation! Don'tcha just love how well all those laws work!
