Now is your chance. I know squat about what actually happened, but it sure is a neat video.:super:

Looks like something exited the barrel at the shot. You can see a little black thing flying off. Probably a muzzle obstruction.
Something probably exited his trousers too.

dayum...wonder if that Browning let the bolt open after...
im real suprised the reciever didnt fail..
id bet, that was mud stuffed in the bore..rainy day, hard walking, slip and fall, muzzle full of mud..nice find.
Early days of Iraq 4 years back 1-2 M2 HMG's a week! Must keep them headspaced and timed or else!
That's a typical barrel "bananna peel" caused by a bore obstruction near the muzzle. Probably mud as Chuck stated. Brownings are strong recievers and pretty good at venting gasses, though that one vented it foward through the barrel splits! I've repaired several for customers who fired a .270 round in a 7mm Rem. Mag. chamber. Usually blows through the magazine well and downward as that is the path of least resistance.
FWIW,
Emri
The black object seen to fly from the muzzle was probably a piece of the syn. stock. I'll bet the shooter had a numb hand and loss of hearing for quite a while!
Emri
ill send all the Browning repairs your way Emri,,lol, i hate em...
not really do to much more then the sales rep in my area..
he,s a real moron..
he was asked, at a Bass pro shops display.
im looking at a new hunting rifle, what makes the Browning better then say the Remington 700 , Savage, or Winchester M70?
all he said was, Browning has a great history or high end rifles, that in itself makes them a better rifle,
said nothing about the bolt, barrel, stock, or how it was made, ect.
so,i asked..really how many armed forces use the Browing bolt action rifle as a sniper rifle,?? he got a bit grumpy to say the least..
i told the guy, buy a 700 Remington, good enough for Uncle Sam, should be good enough for anyone in the field.
as i walked away, the rep, got in my face, and asked why i ruined the sale??
i responded, i didnt,,,he did.
the man had a good question, that he didnt answer, sell the rifle, not the companys history...and for the record, Browning hasnt made a rifle worth beans for 20 years.. plastic parts, aluminum ect...then you have the Boss System..eyeroll..take them off and the rifle might actually shoot..
that just fueled his fire.
called me everything but a whiteboy, lol..so i told him to get some anger managment, and educate himself on the rifles he,s trying to pawn off..
i emailed Browning about the guy, never heard back...
but it felt good to write the email.
the guy asking about the rifles, purchased a Remington 700 CDL, asked for my card,
i glass bedded it, and free floated it, turned him into a happy hunter, and a good customer. just by being honest..
id bet the Browning rep would have done the same, had he been honest, and just sold the features of the rifle.
This would have prevented that.....Frankhttps://www.milsurps.com/images/impo...Rem78821-1.jpghttps://www.milsurps.com/images/impo.../Rem7883-1.jpg
i buy a bag of small bithday balloons, much safer, and make you smile as well:}
I've never seen a rifle blow and don't want to. I have seen a shotgun go though.:sos: What he called coon huntin', he fell on a river bank and it went into the mud. He stuck his finger in the ballel and then fired. :banghead:Peeled like a banana.:dancingbanana: It was a left handed 870. I never went hunting with him again either.
Hey jon, I hunt in Wi. snow mud and its easy to take a fall in the woods. the roll behind the front sight is my tape source. Its makes it easy to replace after a shot. Take care and good hunting.....Frankhttps://www.milsurps.com/images/impo.../Rem7885-1.jpg
Boresighter rod left in after last night's in-camp check? Another possibility...
It probably was the mud that blew it up but 870s did have a problem of barrels letting go. I had one of them.
I was pheasant hunting in the early morning and basically just had assembled the shot gun, checking the bore as I always do. A ringneck flew up and I touched the 870 off. I was greeted was a big explosion at the end of my barrel and the bird flew away.
Barrel was peeled back about six inches. I contacted Remington and they said "Send us the barrel". I di dand they said that. "There was a metal obstruction in the barrel or a stone as the inside of the barrel was scratched".
They sent me a new barrel and about two weeks later a gunsmith told me that there was a recall by Remington due to faulty steel in some 12 guage barrels. Go figure!
Hey jon, That's my Rem. 788 in 7mm08. I love this rifle for deer hunting. I have shot deer with it in every situation you can think of, except at night. My favorite shot is running bucks on an open field. I pull the trigger when they are at the top of their jump, seems to work for me. Oh by the way I shoot left handed. Have a good one.....Frank
Frank,
that's doing pretty good. No disrespect! The gun you can count on is the one you should use IMHO. The most important part of the gun is the person who fires it. You doin' good. take a kid hunting!
jn
jon, I'll be taking two kids hunting this fall. My granddaughter and grandson. I have them shooting already and they're getting pretty good. They have both been out on hunts brefore but will have their own shotguns and rifles this season. They love the outdoors. I own 200 acres of woods and water in central Wi. Have a good one.....FRank
