I get the impression that the Boyd Stocks are not well liked. Why? I have two and they are great. Have friends that use them with no difficulty. They do seem to be a little "plump" but not that different from Post War H@R's. Just a question while setting here with a fractured right foot. Caused by dog.

My Boyd stock never prevented me from hitting gold at the CMP match but DGR stocks are have superior fit. Boyd stocks just require a little attention

I agree with Sub Vet. In my limited experience, one Boyds and one Weinig from DGR, the Boyds is as nice and for the money I'd go that way every time; assuming you can get one.
Both stocks I had were oversized, the Weinig had been obviously reworked; I assume by DGR before I bought it. However, there were places that it was still oversized.
Both stocks had the tenon for the front stock ferrule machined incorrectly. I had to trim them both very undersized and bed the ferrule to the stock.
Boyd's lead times, at the time I ordered the second stock, are/were waaaaaayyyyy long though.

DGR no longer has Wenigs. He is now selling Boyds that he reworks :(
DGR's are very nice. When I spoke to him on the phone, he said he uses whatever he can get his hands on and what the client asks for. Mine is a Boyd's rework and I love it.

Boyd's stocks are a hit and miss proposition. Many people dislike Boyd's stocks because they may take a hugh amount of time and work to fit them and make correct. Problem areas have been discussed with Boyd's, but they have ignored the consumer and keep making them the same way. One of the problems I have with their stock is the pistol grip, it is cut straight rather than at an angle like a military stock. There is little to no room for the little finger to grasp the pistol grip because of the grip angle If you have small hands it might be OK, but medium to large hands have no room to fully grasp the pistol grip. This and other reasons are my personal viewpoints why I don't buy Boyd's stocks, others may feel different.Quote:

Not sure if you are saying the same thing that I feel about Boyds' M1 Stocks, but I won't use them because of the funky pistol grip that's been complained about in the past. Unless they have changed things, it used to be known that there was not enough wood in the pistol grip to make it the way it should be. I have one or two and they are like a "scant stock" in the pistol grip area.

From the folks on the CMP board that don't like Byod, that I heard from, it's just because they are plump. They prefer more GI original, and go through the pains of sanding down to size plump stocks.
I've shot both GI stocks and my own Byod, and while I'm not competing, neither effected my experience of shooting a Garand.
Several years ago I put one of the Boyd "skinny" stocks on a HRA Rack Grade.
It's a nice carrying M1, and handles well. For position shooting, I'd want a fatter stock.
The irony is, Boyd made special "WWII commemorative" stocks a few years ago, & they were made to USGI specs. Why should you have to pay a premium to have a stock cut correctly? With the equipment that stock makers have today, it is EASY to make an exact duplicate of ANY stock.
I just don't get it; why would they ignore customer complaints?
i had one delivered dtome from Boyds and it had been shaed down on one side of the stock near the position at the rear of the inletting for the action, and was visibly poor in workmanship. I called them and returned it to them the stock probably had a small defect/crunch and they just smoothed it over and made the stock look lopsided. they were uttely dumfounded about the stock but payed the way back to them and the price of the stock

Here are comparisons of the USGI type Boyd stock and the typically produced Boyds that most people dislike. I wonder if Boyd's will not produce the near GI shaped stock due to the need of a slightly larger walnut blank?
These two stocks were shipped to me from Boyd's directly about 2 years ago in the same package, it would be great if they made them all the right way! ;)

Hard to say why they would not conside changing over to the GI shape. Gus Fisher earlier this year or last year put up a post on the defunct forum that a brother of Boyd's was going to build and sell USGI type Garand wood. A long thread existed with requests as to what people wanted to see as far as shape goes. I opted for a post WWII SA type shape, it has just enough extra wood and is NOT slight which some guys don't like.
Apperantly this Boyd fellow got a big contract from Remington Arms and the project went into the bucket.
I wish I had a bunch of money to start up a production line for m1 Garand and Carbine wood. But I don't...

I heard that the Dupage stocks were boyds, and were cut down to Winnie profile. I had ordered 1 and this is what i received. fit well with no mods.
I actually ordered 2 more (125 each w/ HG), and should be here beginning next week for 2 BR from the CMP.

that was chestnut ridge finished with fairtrimmers. Had to use chestnut since Feibing is illegal in ca(but not according to ebay :))
