Australian International Arms.

Ever since I traded for my A1A Model 10 A2 I have not found much information about it, until now. It is talked about in the "Lee Enfield Book" by Mr. Skennerton.

Pages are 383-389, 552-554, 568-569. in the Lee Enfield Book.

They were imported by Tristar LTD of Canada. I believe that Gander Mountain bought all the stock of 100 rifles and distributed them to their stores. Being sold at $699.00 apiece.

There was only one at the Erie Pa. Gander Mountain and that was in 7.62 x 39 Russian.

Have not taken mine yet to my range due to heavy rains here but will do shortly.

There is a problem with inserting the magazines but the Gander gunsmith and I figured it out. Basically, the rifles are built to very close tolerances and each part in hand fitted. That is all well and good but when the rifle and mags were parked, that coating made a very tight fit.

What we did was wire wheel the mags to remove some of the park, and no problem now. Also, the rifle will take the AK mags. I tried a 30 rounder but I thought it was a little to much. FYI....

I believe that is what Gander purchased. I do not know how many actually came into the country. My sources saw that there are 40 left scattered through out Gander stores.

If you have a Gander store near by, they will search for you and bring it into the store. You do not have to pay for it if they do.

My local GM had three. The mgr said he sold one the first day, so he ordered 2 more. I saw the one on the shelf, said I'd take it, and the saleman said he'd go get me one out of the back. I'm glad he did because the difference in the wood grain is huge, mine looks great. I went by today to check out (again) the one on the shelf. It is and A2, as I guess they all are, and is a plain jane good grain rifle. It has a chunk (small) of wood out of the butt at the plate. No carrying case with these. :( The gun mgr told me GM got one per store plus 6.

I know it is a little late but almost all GM firearms can be price adjusted by the Mgr or assistant. If one is damaged, it should be priced accordingly.

You also have a one year warrranty on the rifle. My GM gunsmith had to wire wheel my mags to get them to fit easier. Probably should have just sanded the inside of the mag well rather then the mags.

Have them find you a gun case. They are pretty neat. Also, there is a sight adjusting tool that come in the case. If you scope the rifle, the rifle does not fit too well in the case. You should also get a heavy buffalo leather sling . Tool not shown here...

I got everything shown but the case. I need to go back and see if they can do some finding. I've been thinking about getting the other for a shooter, and hanging the first one up, but some jerk side swiped my truck in a parking lot, (no note, of course) and I've got to pony up the deductable for the repairs. :(

FWIW, the mags of mine were not serialed to the rifle. The last three digits of the # are on the bolt, very faintly, and also on the bolt head. ?!?

I read somewhere just a few days ago that AIA had struck a deal with a smallish dealer in NZ, and expected to get things moving in the very near term.

Does your safety have red paint on it? Side towards the butt?

My mags are hand lettered with the last digits of the rifle. Magic marker?

Yes, it has the sloppily applied red paint. That's the only thing about it that is not well done. I guess they have grand ideas of sales with the 0000697
serial number. My mags are totally unmarked.

The red paint is a customs thing to import in to Australia and i dont know for export.

The one I saw at Erie Pa's Gander Mountain not only had the red paint but a punch mark that was also slopped red. Mine does not have the punch mark to show where the safe is off or on. Does not have the Monte Carlo stock either. Thanks.

JUst like they want to make sure all our shootin irons is REGISTERED so the bad peepul won't get none!

Red paint on the safety is a customs import / export requirement to indicate the safety. All rifles going in or out of OZ require this paint to be put onto the rifle before it can clear customs and be registered in any state or territory in Australia.

The customs guys also do drop tests on unloaded rifles. Drop the rifle butt first onto a sufficient surface to ensure the cocked mechanism will not "fire". easy way around this to stop them damaging rifles is to label any rifle as a target rifle. the customs blokes get a bit jittery about dropping a rifle that the owner could take them to court for devaluating the rifle due to damage or loss of calibration.

PS the red paint on the safety can be removed in most states in Australia once the rifle has cleared customs as it is not a requirement under many states firearm legislation to have the paint applied to rifles that have entered the county and been registered correctly.
