I just bought some Venezuela stuff at a local gunshow, brass cased, 1975 production, siad to be clean burning packed in 90 round boxes for $25.00 each (U.S.D.). I got a case of the stuff but, haven't shot it yet. Maybe this weekend. I'll keep you posted-SDH
Don't count on finding any surplus 7.92 in Canada, or any other surplus ammo as well. Canadian law is such that none will make it in: 1- testing to allow surplus ammo in, is prohibitively expensive for the quantity that would be sold. 2- spec's are such that NO surplus ammo will fit the guidelines. 3- Canada is not a large market compared to the USA. I know chaps in the USA who fire off 20 to 30,000 rounds at one shoot. PLUS once it is here, shipping becomes a problem with quantities allowed, so you are almost better off buying cheap commercial ammo at local hardware store. You are allowed to import up to 5K for personal use from the USA, but they cannot legally sell it to you in the USA....Catch 22.....
The only way we will get any "surplus ammo" in Canada is if someone does a deal as happened some years ago, where a manufacturer actually did a run of commercial ammo for a price that was almost comparable to suprlus prices. The ammo was sold as surplus but actually was not......
wheaty, a good point on using commerical 8mm ammo if your milsurp is a bolt action. BA's will digest any flavor of ammo unlike most semi or full auto guns. I have a 98K and shoot commerical ammo in it. I like to use boxer primed, noncorrosive ammo that I can reload.
yea im drifting away from the milsurp, the cost and the possability of major corrosion. ive heard rumor its used for its base metals? not really sure.
i have friends who are singing the blues on the .223 supply issue.
Ultimately, it's going to be a reloading man's game.
About 3 months ago i bought a case of 8mm at a vrey low price from wideners (USA). Did not really need it but price was solow Icould not say no. Also bought a case of 7.52x54 for even less 7 cents a round , i think). I had it shipped to my USP Store address in USA border and went down and picked it up.
Hi All,
Overhere in Europe its quite common to reload your own brass. There isn't heardly any surplus on the market overhere. There once was an load of about 10.000.000 rounds of surplus .303 made in the Netherlands (by AI). They were sold over an period of 2-3 years to the Dutch shooters and weren't exported. After an while the Dutch government decided (in all thier wisdom) that it would be better to dump the rest of it in the Ocean, rather than to sell them back to the tax payer and please them with good and affordable ammo. You should know that our law forbids to have/use/handle/sell firearms for the common public. They can grand you the privilage to aquire 5 firearms but that is not an common practis. To be short, most people in our Government think you will become an criminal if they grand you this privilage. And they treat you accordingly (at least most of them).
There is tons of it in the US. I just brought back 2000 rounds of 8mm . A mix of new Sellier & Bellot and Olyimpic 11.99/box and ALOT of Yugo surplus some dated mid 1950's and 1970's @ 9.99/60. As well as 2000 rounds approx of .303 british. some New manufacture Sellier & Bellot 12.99/box and the rest 1969 Surplus Mk7. @ $12/32round box.
There are people advertising 8mm 900 rds for $200 in the U.S.. Personel at Canada Customs always have different anwsers on ammo importing numbers. The next time a Canadian is on vacation there, they can pick up their max. and declare it on return.
Of course there are also U.S. rules on exporting.
straight from boarder services. I called before I left. '5000' rounds
I declared when I returned in Niagra. He took a quick look and I was across in less than 5 mins.
Mind you, if you get caught trying to get ammo out by the US customs (they can pull you over you know) your car gets siezed(you don't get it back) & you get arrested. After all that fun, they won't let you back in either.
I've been getting the Wolf Gold 196 gr. S.P. Boxer primed and non-corrosive. Also have been de-milling all of my 12 code 1955 mfg. corrosive and the 22 code 1974 mfg. corrosive. Getting VERY good results when transferring one for one to brass cases and boxer primers. As Claven said earlier, it's definitely going to be a reloading man's game in the very near future.
