..."Manufactured during the Second World War"
..
that would make it quite rare.
I don't like the look of that stock cartouche...
guys chime in. Where is the DCM or CMP letter? None even mentioned in his ad. Rather let some1 with more expertise than me in M1C's pronounce this 1 real or not.Hairs on the back of my neck raising,on the description of the mount, and the cartouche. no where does it say it is a G&H mount, just correctly machined, is this a case of legal doublespeak, with no recourse to buyer?:dunno:

"...Base: 3617464 May 3 1932..." No such thing in 1932.
May 3. 1932 is the Griffin & Howe INC patent date. Do you have anything for 3453528 or 3453523?
Closest I have are 3,453,025 (CMP auction rifle w/matching base 3/4/07 black finish greek return) & 3,453,531 (Sprinfield Reseach 12/01/94 - DCM RIFLE SALE 1995 #075) - both are legit M1C's - - I have NO numbers inbetween (good or bad)

:beerchug:
By the way - the base is a legit number - the mount is on M1C 3,306,639 gunbroker.com 5/22/09

(be cool to get the mount back with the base)
over the years as "M1C" receivers, I'd really like Scott Duff or one of the guys to take a hard look @ this before I spent that kinda money for it.The money I would spend for a "restored/built M1C" would be considerably less than for one of the originals. The wording in his ad makes me uneasy. It's almost like it was worded by an attorney to say & not say the mount is an original G&H@ the same time.
Maybe I'm overcautious, but not with my money.:dunno:

Way too few pictures and too sparse a description for a big ticket item.
The buttstock seems to be in question. I for one would like to know why the cheekpad is detached? Was it ever installed?
Regards,
Jim
Thanks everyone. I have not yet heard back from the seller on further pictures and information. Appreciate the comments and advice, I will steer clear for awhile. Just blew most of my money on a 1918a3 Ohio Ord. BAR anyway! Thanks again.
Charlie W. I just checked my private messages and see you emailed me. I tried to reply through Milsurps and my email comes back undeliverable. Send me your email address to my private messages as I have some questions for you
Stock looks like an issue. Receiver is real, base is an issue. I'll guess this is a CMP receiver with parts-is-parts set up. Have you called CMP to see if it shows up on their sales data base? I would like to see it and hold it before plunking down a pile of money. Where is it located? Could you drive down for inspection? Good luck.
All.. super old thread but I now own the rifle in the OP.. rifle is an original M1C (verified by D McClain). The WW2 staking is original for the non -serialized bracket and mount is the aforementioned mount.
The stock cartouche is 100% real (Rick B verified) and rifle appears to be original with staking as expected.
Can someone tell us what the original gun broker price was? Hopefully you got a good deal Ls6man Where did you find the rifle?
Perhaps you can post some pictures here for posterity?
Not sure how to post pics but here is a link. The rifle turned up in NM.. a collector friend bought it and I did a deal with him. It is truly a great rifle.. Dave McClain commented one of the nicest he’s seen..

Absolutely beautiful rifle!
What an absolutely stunning example, it looks factory fresh and unissued!!
Thank you!
I’ve been asked about the bracket being un-serialized. Per the GCA (Garand Collectors Association) the first @1400 M1C’s did not have brackets which were serialized. The thought on this is the brackets were never meant to be removed.. hence there was no thought to serializing them. My C is an early rifle with original finish and has never had its bracket removed. So no serialization is 100% correct and original
Once the issues with heat treating and accuracy were discovered the later C’s had brackets which were serialized. WW2 serialization will be on the bottom of the bracket. Post WW2 on the side.
Also Ricky B has previously verified the stock stamps as original.
I’m constantly looking for the original serialized mount. It would be super cool to reunite the two!
Thanks again
That is absolutely STUNNING!!!!
Thanks!
Very nice... I also have one of the first 1,000 M1C made with the original unmarked bracket, also in nice shape.... 32519XX. K-line, flashider, G&H Mount but no original M81/82 scope. That is an exceptional rifle and especially the scope... about the nicest I've ever seen.
