I have been unsuccesful in finding the date of manufacture for this rifle other than, based on the serial number, it was made later in the production run . I would appreciate any comments, questions or information from the members of the forum regarding the rifle.

Hi c&rfan my Savage has the N# 29C0197 and the stamp for 1942, the other one has SN# 0C26613 and i`ve been told that this is a 1943. I dont know how they count but it is possible that yours made between 1942 and 1943. But out there are any experts wich knows so much more than i do.

The 78C serial number makes it 1943 vintage. A very nice rifle you've got there.

Thanks Steve, I suspected that it was either 1943 or early 1944 since my 11C series is dated 1942.

I just picked up a Savage today. It could be the one in these pics. My SN is 60C4996 with a "3" underneath the SN. Bolt is numbered to the rifle. No SN on the stock, no SN on the magazine. Every part on my rifle has the "S." It came with a bayonet that is also marked "S."

What is the wood. It looks much lighter than walnut. Like birch or cherry. Anyone know???????? It is a CAI import.

Correction: Upon closer examination with a magnifying glass, my rifle has a "B" under the SN, vs. a "3." The vertical component of the character is barely visible but can be seen with the glass.

c&rfan, You also have the later Long Branch safety bolt. Those first generation barrel bands are no fun to install. I had to use a small C clamp before I could thread the screws.

HRA466, The B on the buttsocket is the MoD inspection mark. Not yet determined if the MoD inspected these rifles in N. America or upon arrival in England.

The "B" you reference is often mistaken for the Long Branch L over B. Upon close examination, the "B" is quite different. Many, many, of the Savages have the "B" on the left side receiver heel, whereas the Long Branches do not. I wonder if that is because the LB plant and Canada were part of the British Empire, and thus not inspected as the imported Savages were.

It's a Century Arms import from Turkey. They were brought in 4-5 years ago I think. There were some nice ones in the lot. Yours appears to be one of them.

Turn your sling, (a nice '42 date Canadian one), over. You've got it on upside down and the hooks will scratch the woodwork.

I picked this one up about 13 years ago at a gun show near Atlanta Ga.

I know the sling needs to be turned over, its much easier to photograph the way it was pictured in the posting.
