I have a 95% 1911A1 S/N 749XXX made in November, 1941. Seems to be all original. Matching slide S/N. RS inspected with additional G stamps----except for the barrel----it has the letter F. Is it a relpacement barrel? Thanks.

F marked Colt barrels came later, your RS Colt should have a Small G marked Colt barrel to be correct
What do you mean by, "additional G stamps"
If the F is on the lug, it would be a Flannery barrel which would be a late RR or Ithaca barrel.
Pictures you provide will bring helpful replies.
Thanks Duane. The F stamp is located on the underside of the bbl, forward of the lug.
The G stamp (only one--sorry) is located next to another RS stamp on the top of the frame, just forward of the hammer.
That is a Later Colt barrel that I spoke of in my first post. The Colt barrels with the F forward of the lug were used from about serial number 933,000 and intermixed through to the end of production.
i just got a ithaca 1911 but the frame seems to be a auto ordinance just trying to see just what i have want to parkerize it but if worth a lot dont want to any suggestions?
If the frame is Auto Ordnance, the pistol is Auto Ordnance. You will have to decide what it is before any advice can be given on what to do with it.
ok the slide i guess is ithaca the lower is auto o slide saya m 1911 a1 us military low serial number on frame thanks
also have holster stamped 1917 that came with it what is that worth?
Thanks Duane. Since my S/N is 749XXX, can I assume that the F marked bbl would be correct for the gun? Thanks for the replies.
hirsca......you better go up and reread my posts above. The F marked barrel is for a later gun. You need a small G marked Colt barrel for your pistol. So your answer would be NO....
I'm not Duane, but...No, you can't assume the barrel is correct. The barrel in your pistol wasn't made or used until mid-1943 at about serial number 933,000. The F marked Colt barrels were commonly used from about 933,000 throughout the end of production
Your barrel has been changed. Your pistol's original barrel had a small G in front of the lugs. A small G Colt barrel is one of the toughest ones to acquire. When you can find one, they're normally expensive.
If you go to buy one, beware of fakes. I've seen several bogus barrels offered for sale in the last 2-3 years.
