Picked up a nice SMLE 1907 remington bayonet other day (09/15), bayonet is very good and scabbard has a few worn areas, scabbard is marked H.G.R.17 i would say the scabbard was originaly dark brown.
with the 17 after after the HGR would this be from a 1917 bayonet? will post some pics this afternoon.
The 17 is the dat eof manufacture of the scabbard, scabbards were not numbered to a blade typically by this time, so if a scabbard got damamged a new one would be issued as available. Remingtons woudl originally have had a remington scabbard, HGR was a commercial maker in the UK. The pairing coudl have been made at any time, I have several blades in Remington scabbards that would have originally had a UK maker, also scabbards with remington fittings on new leather

Am a bit rusty on the bayonet knowledge, have just started to collect again mainly 1907 or early enfield, metford etc, had a big clearout few years ago but kept some 1907 back, worst mistake i made was selling my vickers made 1907. thought i,d still post some pics of my latest

The Vickers are not as rare as the apparent production figures show, in my experience the Mole is by far the hardest to find, the ratio being well in excess of 10 vickers to every Mole despite production figures being the other way around. Of course that may just be that the Vickers are highlighted more often in sales due to it's "rarity" but I dont think so. THe prepencity for Vickers to be marked with Canadian acceptances makes me think they may have done a contract direct for Canada that is not reflected in the production figures typically quoted.
Any chance they may have been produced in canada? i know Vickers had a canadian division of the company.
Allways thought the Vickers production quoted on the internet as 10,000 was a low figure considering vickers had a lot of fingers in many pies at the time.
I did have some history on the company, as i served my apprenticeship at V.S.E.L (Vickers shipbuilding and engineering ltd) in Barrow-in furness, this was when the company was privatetised but was one of the last descendents of Vickers armstrong ltd.
Anything is possible, although I have never seen any mention in any canadian reference book either. There is a Vickers on Ebay at the moment
I seen it yesterday, will have a bid nearer the end. My funds are at low again after a buying spree, may have enough to cover it.

It has however seemed to mean that commonwealth collectors like me are seeing a price reduction as UK bidders can only watch and fume
We can still buy them on ebay, its just now i know if the listing mentions knives i i will need to prove my age, as i didnt have any problems in the last few weeks because the items were listed under collectables- militaria, edged weapons..
and not knives,swords..

Interesting, I had to start a whole new profile on EBAY as i was getting stopped from buying frogs, blades etc. as my original profile was started in UK and EBAY couldn't/wouldn't help me despite moving to the US pre ban and having a score of nearly 700!
Glad to hear that they have been more sensible, just have to make all bayonet sellers not list them as knives! Try cuttingedge_uk a UK dealer on Ebay he should be able to track down a Vickers for you, he used to get me my good bits
Think it may also help if you go to the bottom of the ebay home page and look for the different ebay countries, and log on in the United states.
I know cutting edge, not well just by face, i see him at most arm fairs and will see him tomorrow at one in Liverpool, i seen him when i was at the war and peace show, was picking his brains then for info for a price on 1903 springfield bayonet.(looking for one for my rifle)
The arms fair in Liverpool when i was a kid was a major thing, hundreds of dealers but is now reduced to a small event, still got the Birmingham international next week to look forward to.
