Because it matches someones uniform.
Yikes!
I had to try, ...cheers
Awesome. I'm going to do one up just like that for my daughter. I'll add some Hello Kitty stickers, too!

We used to do that to AR15s for three gun matches. I'm glad all mine are black!
Even my wife said oh my god when she first saw it!!
Umm....they missed a spot. The rear site hasn't had the treatment yet.
Perhaps this is an effort to discourage theft?
Where do you go to buy one? Mighty yummy, that.
Ok, now that is disgusting. Rock bottom in my humble opinion. Bleuarghflblgurgh!
Hello Kitty comes to the Lee Enfield......
reduced to this
If that rifle belongs to a woman that can shoot well, she has ATTITUDE and i would not mess with her.
As Col Kurtz nicely put it ... Ohh the horror.....
Make it easy for yourself and admit that you have taken this out of Armanis new Military-Sommer-Fashion-Catalogue 2010 !!! :-)
Regards
Gunner
What is this, 'Pimp My Gun Up' ?
Its Hortons rifle ,he uses it when he and his "friend " go hunting.:dancingbanana:
... colored so that he can find it easily if he drops it in the greenery?
Patrick
If you think that this is BAD, then you ought to see some of the absolute abortions used by the Basra Palace guards. Awash with varnish and p--- poor chrome that was flaking off. Soul destroying. A bit like watching a magnificent elephant in a circus but worse!
Need 30 day waiting period on Krylon purchase and one-can-per-month restriction.
Just as a matter of interest, has anyone else in-theatre encountered the chrome plated Palace Guards rifles? Comments.................
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
That one needs gouging out!!!!!!!
The American science fiction TV series "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" had prop trak guns made from chrome plated Enfield rifles of some sort (they used a No.5 Muzzle Flash hider painted orange, orange muzzles are a common feature of air guns these days) fitted with Compressed air cylinders to fire darts as a pre charged pneumatic.
I've often wondered where they got chrome plated Enfields. Then in recent years Chrome plated No.5 triggerguards have begun to show up.
No fore ends were fitted (later a vertical grip fore end was mounted on some) and buttstocks were painted black.
Could be some parade or guard rifles ended up being used for these props. none of the VTTBOTS trank guns have shown up on prop auction sites or in collections. I've found no information on these at sites that deal with such props.
The Germans used GEW 98 rifles modified to K98 specs and chrome plated with black painted stocks for honor guards and for guards in public buildings.
Some chromed Springfield rifles have been used by school drill teams and for parade purposes.
I showed this to my daughter, she said "Who'd be fruity enough to do that?", then added, "It looks like Hello Kitty threw up on it".
I agree!
^^^^lol^^^^
That poor rifle!!!
This will be the new Obama issue weapon ,if he changes don't ask, don't tell
policy for the military
I KNOW THAT RIFLE................... and its owner LOL :-D
He just thought... "what the hell, I have all these parts, lets make something interesting", it can fire. But only if your wearing a tutu.
So nice to see the pink and blue getting so much feedback.
sunnies??? I reckon sick bags would be more appropriate.
Yes Peter when Sterling were turning out 9mm SMG's a special lot were totally all over chromed and even a few others gold plated for a mid-East potentate with more money than sense. It was a wonder when taking aim that the shooter's eyesight wasn't forever damaged peering down the shiny barrel jacket! (that's peering Peter --- not peeing)

It reminds me of "The Village People" on acid. :runaway:
I'm speachless
Is this Obama's response to the "don't ask, don't tell" legislation?
I know I might be in trouble for saying this, but I like it!
I'd do something like it if I had;
a barreled action from a sporter, with metal bits that needed something hidden, such as non-original drilled & tapped scope holes which have been plugged,
a set of buggered but repaired timber that was beyond the BLO-stage, but could be filled and painted,
parts which were already modified, such as an Aussie nosecap which had a drilled-out hole for the barrel and the like.
If I had all of those things and some spare time, I'd do something like that in a heartbeat. Something to bring otherwise dead or cosmetically hopeless bits back to the land of the living. I wouldn't do it with a complete, matching and collectable rifle, just with bits that were not doing anything else...
Cheers,
Matt
Hi Matt the pink and blue is, as you say made up from crappy old parts from all over the place. The action and barrel are a post war Ishapore with a non matching bolt and the barrel is a bit furry (but it does shoot and is actually quite accurate). The woodwork had the bubba MkIII conversion, eg cut out for a dial sight, it was even in the wrong place! I bogged up the wood and assembled the final product. For people wondering about the choice of colours have a look at a Britten V1000 motorbike. I don't spend much time on these forums but the other members can rest assured that I am a serious collector and have a rather large collection of Martini, Metford and Enfield rifles.
Matt we spoke a long time ago about a visit to the Lithgow museum, I am still keen to go and would still like to catch up over there. The bad economy has knocked the wind out of my sails a bit, but I would like to think that I will be over next year. I will keep you posted.

As to "Chromed' SMLE, done officially, I was in the NZ Army Base Ordnance Depot in the late 1960's. During a stocktake of the Wepons section, one crate turned out to have 10 or so fully chromed SMLE and bayonets. It turned out that these had been returned from Government House - the residence of the NZ Governor general. A Corporals guard used to be mounted on certain days or public functions and these weapons were for that guard. I used to attend Wellington College which shared a boundary with Government House and there were two sentry boxes at the entrance for the guard.
Why?
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr303, You are not only the proud owner of your rifle but also have the distinction of having the most read posting on the forum! Congrats!
'there's only one worse than being talked about and thats not being talked about', quote er, sumbody beginning with Paris?
Thanks for that RJW, Yes it certainly gets people talking. I have had reactions that range from damn near violence to bent double laughing. It is meant to be a dig at ourselves as collectors, I take my hobby quite seriously and am very fussy regarding what I consider a good example of a Lee rifle. I made it as a laugh at myself, as much as a laugh at others.
:eek:WOW
We're jealous too. Not of the rifle but the fact that you have a Britten V-1000 bike too!
Ute308 asked the very valid question '....why?' when we were talking about chromed rifles. I'll let you into a little secret Ute. When you've been in the British ....., or any of the wild antipodean Armies, then you learn very quickly that being on a Quarter Guard or Ceremonial Guard or in fact any guard, even Guard Mounting at 6 o'clock, then bullshi....., er... bullshine very definately DOES baffle brains. As well as immaculately bulled boots, creases that you could cut your fingers on and a chromed bayonet, then all pale into insignificance if the guard all possess chromed rifles too!
Definately not to be used in a sniper role!
The good thing about being surrounded by the enemy is you can shoot in any direction!!!!
And they let me out on w/ends too?
