Inland Rebuild

Hi all,
I decided to rebuild my late 7-44 DCM Inland. Luckly this will be a cheep rebuild. I have almost all the correct parts now including the type 2 band. Need a hammer and probably trigger. Trigger group is SG. Hammer matches it. I'll take it apart this weekend. I wonder if its all SG? I have the correct Inland trigger housing that I was going to swap. This Inland was rebuilt with some early parts so I was able to do some part swapping to get the correct parts.

I also have a DCM Underwood which I plan to leave alone. It was heavly rebuilt for Korea. Thats my shooter. SA barrel on it and nice M2 potbelly stock.

I am waiting on my front sight puller then I'll swap my bands. Anyone have any tips on taking the front sight off? I'll post pictures when done.

Michael,
Put some penetrating oil on the frt sight now.
A small punch will knock the frt sight pin out from either side.
When your puller comes in....grease the barrel in frt of the sight to limit scratches.
Check the inside of your frt sight for any burrs that may scar when going back on.
Grease the barrel when you slide that old band off and your type II back on.
When re-installing the frt sight...I wrap the end of the sight instal tool with tape to keep from marring the edges of the sight.

Here's a peek at my 5,061,238 Inland.
All original except I put the nicest stock I could find for it on.
Sorta neat thing about it is it came with a .U. marked leaf on the flip sight.
Page 358 of WAR BABY states that Underwood supplied to Inland the following
12-28-43 4000 rear sight leafs
4-3-44 5394 rear sight leafs
4-3-44 2233 rear sight assemblies

It was freshly oiled for picture day.

Charlie; Nice Inland! Since it was just 'oiled' where did you get your filter?:lol::super:

Thats a sweet looking Inland. I love the rear sight with the Underwood leaf. Also like the way the type 2 band looks!

Oiling my front sight. I'll do this a few days. My pluller arrived as well as my instlation tool. In a few days I'll see if I can remove and change the bands.

Having the proper tools you should have no problem 3ky if you follow Charlie's directions.

I finally got around to taking the trigger assembly apart. Looks like this carbine got a complete SG trigger assembly. Here is a list of parts:

Trigger Housing SG type 3
Trigger SG Type 2
Hammer SG Type 3
Safety Type 3 Unmarked wich will work both in SG or Inland.
Mag Catch Type 2A I can make out a T which is TSG so it SG

Now for more hunting. My Inland Trigger Housing is a type 5 which I found out tonight when I degreased it so not really correct. I may use it till I find a type 3. Only thing usable out the trigger housing is the safety, sear, plus pins and springs. I have a correct Inland type 3 Mag Catch. Anyone up for trades? I need a trigger housing, hammer, and trigger. Anyone have anything neet to trade I'll let go of the hard to find SG safey.

Question my books conflict on the upper hanguard. I have a matching Inland 4 rivet type 3 handguard with my stock. My serial is 5.3 mill with a barrel date of 7-44. Should this have a 2 rivet type 2? If it does I'll be hunting one of those. I do have a Winchester type 2 2 rivet that I took off my mix match Underwood loose I can trade.

I plan to do the front sight removal following Charleys advice this weekend. People wanting to trade are welcome to PM me.

I think your trigger housing is a type III......it's just had the oil lube/drain hole added sometime along the way. Many were drilled out as a upgrade. But would swap it out also if I was trying to restore back to a as issued look.

I think a type III HG would be a little later than your carbine. No books handy but I think they came out about Oct of 44.
To be safe I'd try finding a OI type II 2 rivet that matches the color and wear of your stock.
I'll look thru my boxes later for one.

Thanks Charlie. I have a W type II 2 rivet I'll part with. Doesnt match my color or wear. Hopfully I can trade the other parts off if not I'll buy some. Inland are easy. I'm fixing to buy a bolt. My bolt was a blued EMQ replacement bolt.
