Well, first off, I sure wouldn't be buying primers from gunbroker. Have you seen what people are asking for M2 ball? .70 to .80 cents a round. CMP was selling it for .30 odd cents a round. Things are way too high priced there. If you find a good deal, some sellers refuse to sell to you saying the auction didn't bring enough money. It's happened to me on there. I seldom buy anything from them.
I know that Wolf primers were going for 30 somthing a 1000 not too long ago. It's more then I'm used to paying but well, the dollar is in the toilet, demand is sky high, and we are fighting a couple of wars.
I would rather use CCI primers but I will buy wolf primers when I need primers again. I normally buy in bulk as to spread out the cost of the haz-mat fee.
I would rather buy american but you just can't anymore. It's sad but most of the items I need to buy are imported. Remember when wal-mart only sold made in america items? Well, not anymore. It's either buy foreign or go without.
I believe that alot of the powders you buy are also imported. That doesn't make them bad. I sure won't pay for brass cased 7.62x39 to feed my AK and SKS's.
Look around for deals and be prepared to buy when they come up. They are out there.
Geeze! I was at a gun show saturday and everyone had tons of powder, primers, brass and bullets as well as loaded ammo in just about every caliber and most prices were close to where they were three years ago! I was shocked to see so much stuff on the tables and folks weren't even buying much!? You guys need to come to Ohio.
I was at a gun show in Western Massachusetts and they had CCI primers for $35.00 a 1,000. Not like the good old (recently old) days but it's getting a little better.Quote:

Last Gunshow I went to in Dayton had tons of primers;
WSP- $45.00 per 1000
WLP- $50.00 per 1000
WLR-$50.00 per 1000
CCI-500; $50.00 per 1000
going to the O.G.C.A. show in nov. hope to find a better deal.
Widener's has a reasonable selection of Wolf primers in stock for about $29.50per brick before shipping. I have used Wolf Large Pistol and Small Rifle Mag (.223) with good results. For me the Wolf Large Pistol was a little hotter than US primers, but the loads were very accurate, enjoyed using them and would buy more if needed.
At the Tanner Gun Show in Denver this weekend, saw lots more primers for sale showing increases in supply, running about $36 to $40 per brick. I'd say that $50 per 1000 is way too high, other choices should be available now, especially if you can buy in some level of bulk. At the Tanner Show ammo was priced way high from most vendors, even allowing for shipping. Best thing we can do is wait it out until supply & inverntories stack up, as will happen because the manufacturers, especially the Russians, are really cranking it out now. If you check the internet for ammo, some sellers are starting to drop prices noticeably, prob because stocks are backing up and sales may be slowing. Component prices should follow and drop as supplies catch up to demand.
BTW, yes, buying Russian stuff could be seen as helping them, and Russia under Putin's new styled KGB system is definitely an enemy of the west, nowdoubt about that... However, comparing our society with theirs, and at the relative prices we can get their stuff at, I'd say they are still giving us the rope to hang THEM with, the Russian Bear greatly supporting marksmanship and gun ownership in America.

Could be, but I don't think so. There are some very large distributorships in this area and they seem to be feeding the local market first. At any rate, the stuff on the shelves and at the shows look like new production.
just ordered 10,000 CCI large rifle primers from Champion's choice along with 1,000 match 308 berger bullets. the price was ok for the good CCI primers for use in my MIa 308/ match gun.:madsmile:
...had wife pick up some regular CCI Large Rifle primers and when I looked at the receipt, they had charged $7.99 per 100!!! This is from a small mountain community so things are more expensive, but Holy Cramoly! They used to charge $4.99 - talk about gouging. Seems like no one else within a hundred miles had them at ANY price.
The last primers I bought were at the Berea show near Cleveland. They were CCI LR and they were $30 a 1000. I have been lucky enough to maintain a steady supply through the crunch paying in the mid to low $30 range. I can't always get what I want but can find what I need. It is getting better. I have seen primers go for as much as $50 a brick and they were still there at the end of the show. Powder is still in the $30 a lb range when you can find what you want. H and IMR 4895 is scarce. Varget can be found and BLC-2 as well. The two hardest bullets to find are 30 carbine and 123 gr 7.62x39. I did pick up a 1000 7.62 Winchester bullets at Berea for $160. Now I wish I had bought the other box as well. I have been working with cast bullets fo my .30 cals with decent results.
my recent purchase of CCI magnum rifle primers, just got the UPS box full of them yesterday, 10 boxes of 1K, thirty four bucks a box plus the 25 buck haz fee and the UPS shipping fee. wow. I think that these will continue to rise in price and until the Afgan middle east opium wars get done, when we give up and smooth things over with the Mus army there,the prices may stabilize, but by then Opie's boy in the white house will have firgured a way to raise/tax us on the reloading components too.
I just paid $39 including tax for 1000 WW209 primers today. The prices are coming back down around here.
Powder Valley has primers at better prices than most places.
i've noticed prices coming down in south central pa. gunsmith friend of mine, and his is a small operation, got in 5 cases of winchester primers, all types. he refuses to screw his loyal customers and all primers were 33-35/1000. so if he can charge that and turn a profit, what is he paying for them ? on the other hand, another local crook even had them for $39. i think it amounts to individual gouging at this time. forget about gander mountain or cabellas. try to hold out as long as you can. prices should be coming down, not like in the "old days", but coming down.
Hi new here. Ive had great experience with Powder Valley, the shipping was extremely fast. I got mine in 3 days i think from the morning after i ordered. Price was below anyone i found.
As far as I know the U.S. Military has only one ammunition plant and that is Lake City Army Ammunition plant.

The American Government in its infinite wisdom to feed the "military industrial complex" now contracts out all ammunition manufacturing to civilian contractors. You spell this as monstrous profits for these companies now that the politicians have eliminated government competition by closing military bases and implementing the biggest ripoff in American history called "contracting out".
By implementing these fantastic cost cutting measures and closing military bases it took over three years to get armour kits for our Humvee vehicles to get to Iraq and Afganistan.
You have a hard time getting getting primers because all the companies are making ammo for the U.S. Military and the fat cats keep getting fatter.
We worked our backsides off to get ready for the first Gulf war and they gave us hats made in Taiwan.........contracted out to the cheapest bidder :rolleyes: And a short time later our Army GIs got black berets made in China :sos:
New Cumberland Army Depot died and the aircraft overhaul section or Air Maintenance was contracted out to civilian contractors. Defense Distribution Depot Susquehanna, Pennsylvania was created in 1991 with the merger of New Cumberland Army Depot and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) The people running DLA are non-vets who can't tell what branch of service you are in so they call all our GIs "War Fighters" :rolleyes:

No problem finding Wolf primers for under $30/1000, and I also got some Federal for a decent price recently. I'm still using the last of my CCI LP and LR primers, hope they reappear before too long.
Powder valley is a definate go.
Just bought a brick of CCI small rifle primers today for $30 +tax {$31.95} at a small local shop. He's been my steady supply. He tells me every time I go in that he has a standing order fo 200 K of each type and brand and he gets a couple thousand in at a time. Once I went in to get large rifle and he said he has two bricks. I said I'd take both and he said no you won't. You'll get one.
I agree with Ed horton: We see the gov contracting out what should be done at our army/navy/ airforce bases and arsenals at a better cost, etc. Now I see Obammi on the news this morning trying to stop all the contracting cause it is not cost effective. guess all the senators and reps in dc wanted to bring the bacon home, didn't they/ good money in contracting.
Can find them in SE PA for around 33-36 per 1000 from my friendly local gun store. Dave_n
