What rifle are you using this fall?

I'll be spending every day I can get away from class this fall in the bush.
For whitetails and moose, and perhaps even black bear I use a BLR in .7mm-08REM.

If I'm lucky though, I might take a g.33/40 out for a day this fall.... as long as it isn't raining ;)

The PPK is the perfect "bear" gun. When the bear starts to chase you and your hunting buddy, just shoot him in the leg to give the bear a slower target.;)

I don't hunt, but my Ranger Patrol has decided to plan a hunting ex this Sept. Hopefully I'll get my first whitetail or mulie in about 20 years. We'll all be using our issue No.4. Exercise name is Gut Pile.:)

I'll be using my Savage 111F in 300WM :)

Have a few to choose from. Maybe a 1905R .303 Ross sporter. Just fitted a Redfield aperture sight to one that had been previously drilled and tapped. Or, if I can get it shooting to my satisfaction, my Starr carbine. The Mauser Type A would be a classic; so would the 6.5 MS. There are a few milsurps that would be interesting. Or maybe just stay with the Ruger .44 or Winchester 94 in .303 Savage that I carried last November. So many to choose from. 14 days in the deer season, perhaps a different rifle every day?
Glad I noticed the PPK; otherwise I was would have wondered exactly what you were planning to do to the deer.

Tiriaq, I know what you mean, too many to choose from. I'd love to ake each of my milsurps out for a day, but I don't feel as bad about letting the Browning get soakd in rain etc.

Incidentally, with respect to small big game guns, I knew a chap who administered the coup to a caribou with a Colt .25.

For my inaugural moose hunt this fall, I am pleased to announce that my 1905 Ross will be taking down my first moose(yep fingers crossed), of course people in my hunting group are looking down there nose at my choice so the pressure is on to perform.

There is something about a Canadian shooter, a Canadian rifle and a Canadian Moose shot on Canadian soil that means very much to me.

For my coyote problems, my new Stevens .223 is the choice by far. Very pleased with it so far.

bought a parker hale.303 NO4 in ex,cond. this spring going for moose,elk,mule deer. last year hunted with my bubba no5 got 3 mule deer:D

Realistically, I'll be using a Ruger No.1 or my custom 700. The PPK pic was taken as a joke to parody the typical "James Bond lifestyle". Ever see bond wrap it up in a movie? Hence the anti-biotics ;)

If I get my act together its going to be my yugo mauser with zrack for shmoose, deer is going to be a 6.5x55 affair, wolves and coyotes are to be perused with a Ruger No1 218 Bee. I will likely jump a few ponds with the Norc lever 12ga and those pesky chikens with a tried and true 10/22. Only 22 more shopping days until hunting season. Good luck.

You fellows are most spoiled, we folks in the republic of New Jersey, U.S.A. are not allowed to hunt deer with rifles. The great powers that be don't trust us hunting with guns of such power like a 6.5 X 55 or for that matter a .22 rf. We are allowed to use the mighty shotgun, yep, thats about it. Never take freedom lightly-SDH

There are lots of areas in Ontario where only shotguns or muzzleloaders can be used.

Shotgun only areas are based on the notion that because a shotgun slug has a shorter extreme range than a centrefire rifle, shotgun only hunting poses less of a risk than rifle hunting in semi-settled areas. Pennsylvania did a serious study about reported stray rounds. It turned out that there were a lot more reported stray shotgun slugs than rifle bullets. It would seem that the reduced risk idea is a fallacy. I do not know if this study involved only Foster type slugs, or the newer saboted or bullet style slugs fired from rifled barrels.

We will use a 303 #4#1, aJapanese 6.5 and a old Winchester 30.30.

Browning A-Bolt 300WSM for Moose
Norinco M14 for Deer
Rem 870 12ga for Ducks
Savage 22lr/20ga for Grouse

Like everyone else I have a myriad of rifles for hunting.Yet I always seem to return to my Rem. m700 7mm mag.It has been very good to me over the years and I hate to tempt faith this late in the game.

It must be nice to be trusted with rifles for hunting. Here in New Jersey we arn't trusted with such evil weapons therefore we are to use bows or shotguns, hum. Perhaps If I were allowed to use a rifle I would use something along the lines on a 20 m/m boyds antitank rifle and a well fed mule to help me get it into location-SDH

Actually, I might change my vote and use a new rifle that's almost done. Commercial FN Mauser 98 Actioned Husqvarna model 146 in 8x63 Swedish that's been heavily modified. Original caliber was 8x57JS, I had it reamed. Action bedded in Bisonite. Pachmayr decelerator installed. Leupold turn-in bases & rings. Bushnell Elite 3200 2-7 scope. Low swing safety.

Should be a nifty little package in a hard-hitting exotic caliber.

LOL - no. It's not a milsurp K98, it's a sleek looking sporter :) Recoil absorption is what the 1" thick decelerator is for.

I will be shooting my Japanese 6.5 cav carbine, My sons will use a 30.30 Winchester(old top eject model) and a 303 #4 mk1 Enfield. Iron sights on all of them--None of us like scopes.

This will be the 35th year for my Longbranch
A Win.94 -32Win.Spec has been my back-up for about half those years .
My third could be anything . Last year it was a '44byf k98 , this year it's either going to be a bubba'd Ljungman or my scoped Win. 120 12ga. 'w the 24" slugger barrel ( also my turkey gun ).

the good'ole 303 works for me

Well the 6.5x55 with a 140 grain remingtin PSP over a load of IMR 4895 just bagged a perfect 155 B&C 10 pointer, weight on the hoof was 328 lbs. I will admit that it was a bit to much though on the red fox, time to take her down to an 85gr pill. Know if I could only down load a pic for hunting with milsurps.

I took 2 rifles - a #4Mk2 Irish contract SMLE ( new in the wrapper when I got it ) I've scoped it with a Leopold variable ( non gunsmithing mount so don't panic ) and a 660 code 1939 K98 ( a czech armoury refurb ) which sports a Burris EER 4X, and a Huber concepts trigger, and is far & away my most accurate rifle. My theme for the hunt was "who gets the bragging rights ?" Axis vs Allies ? Answer - niether, got skunked - DOH !!!

When hunting polar bears, cut a hole in the ice and sprinkle dried peas alll around the hole. When the bear comes up to take a pea, kick him in the ice hole.
