I posted the following on another Lee-Enfield forum & got zero response :banghead: so I'm hoping you guys are more communicative.:help:
Just a couple or three questions;
Do C.L.L.E.s & L.E.1*s have their bolts numbered to their receivers & barrels?
What does having a PH peep sight fitted to a CLLE or a L.E. 1* do to its value?
Also having 1/2 inch off the muzzle?
I'm off to South Africa next week to visit family & hoping to add to my collection. (of Enfields that is, one wife is enough).

2. value of gun + value of sight = Value of package. Generally issue rifles do not have commercial sights. Sights were added for target shooting.
3. Result is minimal collector value. Even adding a free bored barrel extension won't interest a purist.
Such a sight being on an issued military rifle wouldn't mean much in the way of additional value except for the price of the particular sight. Since such sights weren't issued with military issued rifles, the rifle really can't be enhanced in value past the sum of it's parts. As for the value of a sight, well that would depend on the model. There are so many that the question of value would have to be answered by those that collect them. If your rifle was a target rifle and it had a special sight as well, then their combination could be of interest as a set. Missing 1/2 inch from the muzzle isn't something that could be overlooked whether on a target rifle or a service rifle. Even replacing a barrel would mean that the barrel and the receiver no's wouldn't match. It might increase the value over what one with a cut barrel would be worth, which is for parts, but one would have to invest in another barrel and not worry about collectability as long as they just wanted a shooter or a rifle of that type. The high prices are set by the collectors and only the best are seen as collectable because they have the potential of increasing in value. Having a rifle with mismatched barrel, receiver and bolt is better than having a matching receiver and bolt with a cut barrel in my opinion. However, it's value as a top of the line collector piece will never be realized. But, if you like the rifle enough, who cares what others think it's worth. You'll have your long Enfield. That's certainly better than not having one at all.
Thanks guys. The cut barrel for me is a no no but I just thought 'd see if I was being overly picky. I've now decided which ones I'm going to try for & will post pics when I come back from holiday.
From what I gather, getting anything that goes bang ot of South Africa these days. They're even chopping up their museum pieces.

I've tried adding pics from photo bucket but seem to be technology challanged,so if you go to classicarms.co.za you can look at Lots F98, F103 & F106.
I'm pleased as I only paid $Cdn 900 for all three
