My Meager Collection

I don't consider myself a collector of military edged weapons but over the years I've picked up a few here and there if I thought the price was right.

I recently bought a Case M3 and in my search to find out what exactly it was (thanks again SKIPH) I got to thinking about all the military knifes and bayonets I've accumulated over the years and decided to share with you all. It's not much but I don't "collect" these either.

The date is 1981.

The knife belonged to an Air Force pilot friend and former military school student of my father. He served from 1977-1997 and flew the A10 Thunderbolt. He was actually involved with the A10 from almost it's first days with the USAF. I believe the A10 was first deployed in 1976. (I think, don't quote me on that) I do know he was part of the A10 's first combat ready fighter wing in 1978 because he had kept in touch with my father and I remember my dad talking about the new "flying gun" the US had when I was younger.

I'm not sure exactly when he first started actually flying the A10 but I know he flew it in the first gulf war when the A10 saw combat for the first time. Anyway, he gave the knife to my dad when he left the Air Force as a gesture for all the help he'd given him in his early years. My dad just passed it on to me.

not meager at all , thats a fine accumulation of interesting bayonets , my focus is narrow i dont know much of many of those

I think hoarding may be a better term. very nice stuff!

It's NOT hoarding, we are saving them for the education of future generations. ( Well it sounds good if you have to justify your collection to the non believers).

You have stolen my rationalization. Or perhaps I yours. Aquired a model 38 Arisaka and Enfield No1 MkIII*sans bayonets. Nice rifles I thought were a bit incomplete without a pointy end and this was the result (with a few odds and ends too keep them company).

I actually didn’t know what I had when I picked it up. With help from fellow members, I realized it was a fairly rare fighting knife.
I’ve also picked up a couple M9 bayonets since I last posted, a 4th generation Phrobis III and a current issue Lan-Cay. I’ll post pictures when I get a chance later…

Always good quality these Swiss Army bayonets. You can actually use the Pioneer bayonet as a saw. It's flat on one side of the blade. Sometimes you find a Swiss bayonet is chromed. It helps to stop them going rusty. It's an official unofficial modification! If you see a nice Swiss bayonet for a fair price, buy it you will not regret it. Short of funds try to get a Sig 55. £15-£25. It's a smaller version of the M1918.

yes , that one was sharp , and perfectly capable of felling a tree ,

in hind sight i bought these to fit the rifles i had traded for , i bought some of my rifles to fit the bayonet i just seemed to have to buy , and i bought a couple bayonets because i found a great rifle ,

i have one bayo that im now looking for a rifle to go with , and ive bought a scabord just to have an example of all that go with a certain bayonet and sadly parted with a few i want back ...

but i narrowed my focus in the last year and sold off/traded off/gifted the majority of my US rifles , i cannot yet bare to part with the pointy bits and my US handguns ,

I do not know about you guys but I have to tag each bayo and sheath so that I remember what they are and what rifle they go on.

I use the small round key tags with string for that purpose.

The bayonet below the FAL rifle photograph appears to be an Uzi bayonet. This blade was also used to create the South African No 9 bayonet for the No4 Lee Enfield rifle. Hope this note is of help.
