Hi bb1 ... :)
When I was doing my officer training back on the 60's, we were told there were three things that shouldn't be discussed while drinking in the officer's mess. They were women, religion and politics ..
The reason was simple. Those discussions always lead to bitter disagreements and acrimony, even amongst friends. To validate this, all you have to do is see the vitriol spewed at and about people on Internet forums, that have a political or religious aspect to them. We even saw it here for a period of time. ;)
We're supposed to be sharing our forums to interact with a lot of like minded folks, who share a common love of old milsurps and the terrific collecting hobby surrounding them.
We really don't want to see a lot of good "electronic" friends who may differ in political or religious views, destroy an otherwise enjoyable experience talking about old guns, by deliberately creating a posting environment which by its nature promotes divisiveness.
There's a huge number of political discourse sites (and forums) on the Internet already (some on gun sites), catering to both left and right wing viewpoints. If anyone really needs a "fix" of watching perfectly sane and normal people deteriorate into name calling and verbal assaults simply over their political views, we'd recommend they join one of those sites and have at it. ;)
Our site isn't the place for this kind of behaviour, or the content that causes it, plus we have no desire to have to install a "Romper Room" as a time-out area for mature adults, who when discussing any gun related material wouldn't even need it.
Our registration agreement is quite clear ....
Thanks for the feedback and I hope that helps clarify your question. :cheers:Quote:

i for one, am ok with the rule, its nice to just BS about guns, and that in itself gets heated sometimes.
i avoid the politics sections of the other forums.
i hear it all day on talk radio, and hear it at night on the tube..
its a nice place to get away from the educated car salesmen we have elected.

It was actually a rhetorical question. I was making a reference to the sad state that poly-tics has devolved to. Thanks for the explanation anyway.
Keep in mind that this is a worldwide forum! What is a big deal in your neck of the woods matters not to many of the members. (Unless you're a "Yank", then your issues MUST matter to everybody!)
The ban on political and religious topics makes this board an oasis and a place I look forward to visiting every day.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
It is just so much easier without it.
I guess that about explains everything.
Good posts from evertbody.
Bill
Hey, and we didn't even get political!:super:
I question what kind of life some of those folks must have if they can average 10+ posts per day over three months in some sort of hodgepodge political/gun rights board.
So everything is OK in the world?
As far as Milsurps.com is concerned? Yes, perfect in fact. :super:
I've noticed some of the other forums with political discussion seem to feature the same guys spouting off about politics in a pretty heated manner.
The funny thing is they all AGREE with each other!
Woebetide the individual who happens to put forth a contrary argument.
It ain't pretty.
Good point MIke! I will not allow myself to get into any type of political discussion (any topic) at my range. This is quite easy as most who wish to engage in this sort of stuff are almost always squirreled away in the range house, ready to pounce on those poor souls who open their mouths.
it would be a cat fight if politics was talked about on this site
More like a dog fight!!:D
I agree with Mike. Try attempting to mildly contradict or point out a fact differing from the "consensus" on one of the other firearms-related sites and you will see why this site is a refreshing change.
Yes, that's true. PLEASE don't change this great rule!
I can not stop laughing You guys make great points and make me laugh so hard I almost busted a gut. It was so inspirational I found myself saying thank you to everyone with my mouse.
Politics is a very interseting subject and I must agree this really is not the right forum to discuss it, besides ALL my friends agree with my politics and that is why they are my friends. All of us (my friends an myself included) long ago figured out the political game and absolutely don't associate with people with contradicting views.
I have to He is my one and only brother but he spent way to long in the Peoples Republic of Californastan (Can I say that?) Anyways we have agreed to not discuss politics and agreed to disagree.
A very wise decision you guys made.
Is gun control political ? When we moved from the UK to France seven years ago, I was allowed to take any gun components provided they were not "pressure bearing" parts . Now I see British dealers adverts claiming that they are not allowed to export gun-stocks nor telescopic sights . If I click on e-bay UK they often block viewing of militaria "hard-ware" because of export restrictions , you're not even allowed to look let alone bid !
Question ; Is all this now law , or have the trade been given some kind of threat if they don't kowtow to this all powerful quasi-religious/political/control agenda ? Is there any forum that details national/international rules and restrictions ... without getting all opinionated ?

Without wishing to get all opinionated, I think this is indeed kowtowing to the all powerful quasi-religious/political/control agenda. What the Germans call "vorauseilender Gehorsam" - bowing to non-existent regulations that someone, somewhere might enforce, in the kind of self-censorship that gives those of a restrictive mentality an easy ride. I think ebay suffers from this, and it varies from country to country. For instance, from Germany I can look at the US online auctions (so it is not a US legal restriction), but not so much as a cleaning rod on US ebay. Hard luck if you actually want to purchase gunmetal, not guns!

No we can't discuss women! What do we have moderators for!!!!
Patrick
Except for the Yank Comment.
I like the fact that there are not hundreds of political posts to wade through to find one firearm related post. Which is what I increasingly have to do on other forums. I personally think many try to post political crap on forums like this because they are too ummmm can I say pu##y to post on a political forum. Where they would get ripped to shreds.
Is it the comment you didn't like or is it the name ? Hope us Brits don't offend y'all by the term , it's not intended . Hope nobody's trying to be politically-correct here 'cos politics aren't allowed . Talking of women ??? I recently found Heather Lacroix on you-tube ... one feisty southern belle who just likes to have fun with her guns (lots of them) . I think she could out-pull the best recruiting sergeant . Do any of you think she creates a negative image ? (for shooters).
Bouletbill observed a certain curious restriction in the country where he resides. I added my observation of the same effect in the country where I reside, and agreed with his tentative interpretation of this behavior. That was additional information, not "getting political".
I certainly am not interested in poitical discussions, but I am interested in knowing why in one country I cannot access information in another country about goods that are legally available on the open market in both countries. If you have an alternative explanation for the observed effects, please let us know what it is.
Patrick
Thankyou Patrick for your comprehension .
Question ; if I get a Euro Permit for my rifle and pistol , can I put them in the car and do a tour of gun clubs across Europe ? (Excluding of course Banitall Britain) .
What if ........ A gun club twinning association ? If every gun club had a twin in each other country , that gave members visiting rights across the continent ? Well , I think it's a good idea anyway .
"Question ; if I get a Euro Permit for my rifle and pistol , can I put them in the car and do a tour of gun clubs across Europe ? "
NO, since the transport of firearms across borders is only permitted for a specific purpose.
If you have
1) A European firearms licence.
AND
2) An invitation or registration for a competition by a recognized rifle club or national body
- then it is usually no problem to take the rifles/pistols and ammo that you require for the competition into that country and back home again.
But check with the host club/organization first!
