Hello I'm a new member this is my first message. I have a pattern 18 sniper scope but nothing else, can you buy a No1 Mk 3 HT without a scope? I would like to try & put one together not to pass off as an original but for my own collection & use as I possibly won't get the chance to own an authentic sniper would be interested in members views & help. thanks Wayne T
About the best you can do w/o spending tons of money or waiting forever is to find a Winchester P'14- Pattern 1914W(f) even better! and have rings and mounts done. Even if your scope still has rings, they were individually fit, so there's not a great deal of interchangability. If you post what info you have on your unit, though, there's no telling what might pop up. Just save your pennies!
Mind you, the fine adjust rear sight Winchesters were actually sniper rifles, just w/o scopes, so they're plenty collectable just like they are.

You'd probably be better off if you offered the scope for sale and took the money and put it towards buying a genuine sniper rifle. I see made up snipers all the time at gunshows and they simply scream "fake."
Starting a seperate account for building up the cash to buy your desired rifle can be very satisfying as you will have the advantage of actually making an investment that will protect your hard earned money's value. All it takes is time an a litle luck.

To answer your question HT's are very rare and also highly collectible. The scope you have can have authentic connections to one of these via a little serial number stamped on it, in which case it too is rare and highly collectible and worth $$$$$. There are section on forums for reconnecting original scopes to their original rifles.
It can also be not connected to the HT's in which case it it still rare and highly collectible but will sell for a little less than the other.
What ever you do, you have something nice there.

The rifle number is the important bit. Wait and see! Might place notice on Angel's matchmaking sub-forum to keep it where folk will go snooping from time to time.
Hello, Wayne. On your scope there will be a number stamped on the little brass ring at the eyepiece end.
Has it got rings on it?
The rifle serial number engraved on it tells me it was originally a highmount scope set up on rifle 94534 which was completed and sent to store on 2/05/45.
If you can find the number, I may (remote chance, but a chance) be able to tell you more.
As far as making the parts to fit it up to a rifle, it will cost you more than the project is worth to do, and will be easily detectable as a fake set up as all the HT's serial numbers are listed. The rings and bases were also stamped with the same number as the eyepiece ring, as are all the internal components of the scope.
Scopeless rifles come up rarely- more likely to see someone chasing a complete scope with rings to put on one, as there were many more scopes than complete rifles.
If you need rings and bases you'll bid up to 2 grand for a set (or more) on fleabay.
I would stick the scope aside and keep your eyes open for a complete rifle whilst saving your pennies. This is where the luck, as mentioned above, comes in. There are probably more people in the world looking for a HT than there were total HT's made. If you find a complete rifle, you can pretty much be sure of two grand for your scope to go towards it.

Well, if you want to make up a No1HT replica, go for it I say. The parts are all available in Australia.
Make it, enjoy it, shoot it.
You've got the hard to find piece already, the rest should be a lot easier and cheaper.
Of course lots of people would like to buy your scope too...:lol:
