for your Enfield target swivel and NOW ds-solutions is sending me email asking me if I want to “Stay effective as a lover” and buy Viagra.

The strange part is the “Take It” link goes to a Canadian website We Always Have The Cheapest Offers In Our Pharmacy Store and this could mean Badger was involved in this. :yikes:

So I reckon your bug was caught by some nasty redirection your side of the pond.

You need to get the Federal Government to get Florida (Where most US based spam originates.) to sort it's eCommerce laws out.

I know the email didn’t come from ds-solutions, a “spybot cookie robber” found out I was visiting ds-solutions and sent the fake address.

I was just pulling Alan de Enfield’s leg, or joking with him. Alan has been using MY headspace photos in other postings and telling everyone there is nothing wrong with .074 head space. :banghead:

I don’t mind Alan using my photos at all and Alan’s views on head space don’t bother me in the least. :slap:

Thanks for the viagra warning Ed - so many postings and I've only been away for 3 hours.

The "book" says .074" max (even the Canadian manuals you provided) so 0.074" is acceptable and safe. I know you have different bolt heads for minimising your headspace with different rim thicknesses but why state 'safe' figures and then question them ?

I also deal with DS Solutions and have had two or three of these spam emails with DS as the "alleged" sender. :dunno:

Bah Humbug an Enfield head space Christmas tale.

At the old Gunboards forum we had a New Zealander named Beelzebub and also at the old Jouster forum we had Prole. Both screen names were the same person from New Zealand and I was sworn to secrecy about the owner of these names.

Beelzebub/Prole is never coming back to our forums because I believe he was fed up with the infighting and BS.

Beelzebub/Prole had a gunsmith who believed in tight head space because it helped keep commercial cartridge cases from becoming distorted in the Enfield’s large military chamber. We are talking reloading accuracy and not over stressing the cartridge cases fired in your Enfield.

Because of the type British and Commonwealth competition Beelzebub/Prole was in he was forced to full length resize to ensure each cartridge would chamber in the different Enfield’s he used.

Beelzebub/Prole favorite Enfield for competition was a Canadian Long Branch Mk.1* because the rear of the receiver was not cut out for the bolt release and thus the action did not flex as much (compensation?)

Beelzebub emailed me after a heated head space debated at Gunboards once with the following message:

Illegitimis non carborundum don’t give in.

What I personally write about head space is already documented and not something I came to on my own and Beelzebub and his gunsmith knew this also. There is a direct relationship between the amount of head space and how much a cartridge case will become distorted when fired.

When you fire commercial cases in military chambers the stress/distortion figures go through the roof and again this is not my idea it is a written fact.

The following is written by a Canadian Armourer.

Most gunsmiths use the tighter SAAMI gauges when accessing headspace. I said most - not all. If your rifle is assessed as "serviceable" using military gauges, there is a distinct possibility that you will experience more case stretching. If this is so, you might want to tighten up the headspace.

LIFE EXTENSION OF 303 BRITISH CASES

1. Tighten up your headspace according to SAAMI specifications
2. Fireform cases using midrange loads
3. Neck size only
4. Use an elliptical expander in your reloading die
5. When chambering becomes difficult because of shoulder position,partial resize with a full length die or use a Redding Body Die
6. Don't use max loads unless you have to!

Reloading the 303 British: Chambers and Headspace

Below is some surplus South African .303 ammo.

Below is the same South African ammo in a Wilson case gauge which duplicates a commercial SAAMI .303 chamber, the case is resting on its shoulder in this gauge.(not the rim) The case is resting .002 below minimum head space or .062 as any loaded ammunition should be to ensure chambering.

Below is the South African ammunition after firing, it is sticking up over an 1/8 of an inch above the top of the gauge and it should be level with the top of the gauge. This proves the military .303 Enfield chamber is NOT exactly the same as the commercial American SAAMI chamber.

If you do not compensate for this chamber difference when full length resizing your military Enfield cases you will be grossly over resizing them.

The military Enfield chamber is larger in diameter and longer than its civilian counter part, and American commercial SAAMI ammunition was never designed to shoot in a British military Enfield chamber.

The majority of people who tell me I’m wrong about head space are reloading Greek HXP military grade ammunition.

The rubber o-ring method of fire forming cases MIGHT make me change my mind about head space…….maybe……

I have never said 0.074 is going to give you best accuracy.

What I have said on numerous occasions is that (please take note of this)
