S&W .38 Navy Victory Revolver

I know not carbine, but wanted to share some pics I finally took of a S&W .38 Spl Victory revolver that was issued to the Navy.
I'll try getting better pics outside one day, but these will have to do for now.
This is all matching serial numbers on the Barrel, Frame, Cylinder and inside the grips. Finish is the original. S&W letter with it. Be sure to click on the bar above the 2 letters so you can read them.

IIRC,
The Navy had the least amount delivered to them, but will have to research that.

That is a major score. I understand that those revolvers were often issued to pilots and aircrew. Makes you wonder what battles it may have seen.

Nice old wheel gun, Charlie.... First Navy one I've seen.. Hard to come by.

I've got one V3523** that I got sevral years ago from a guy just as he walked in the door at a gun show. He said he was in the Navy during war and helped rescue downed pilot who gave him the gun. Of course, with no documention, this can only be another one of the stories. Nevertheless, like yours, all nrs match and mine is an exc shooter like all S&W Mod 10's and predecessors are. Never got a ltr from S&w but a knowledgable guy in Fla said it was sent to the Navy. Traded a $150 rifle and $150 cash for it.
Does S&W still do the letters? Seems I read that Mr. Jinks had retired?

I understand that S&W will still do the research, but they do charge for it. Here's the link for it.

That's a very nice Victory you have. Not too far from my USNavy marked #5769x. According to my letter from Roy Jinks at S&W, it was shipped to the Navy at Oakland on Aug 4, 1942. Not long after yours. My other, #26529x is marked "USProperty/GHD", and was also shipped to the Navy at Norfolk on Mar 19,1943. Both have all matching numbers, and I wouldn't trade them for anything else.

I guess I'll have to see what I can find out about my Navy.....All I know is that it came via the prison system in Alabama.

At least you know your revolver probably knocked in a few heads ;-)

Any idea what the value may be on the Navy issue?
I picked this one up in trade from a good friend, roughly a year ago.

They have been running around $450-$550 in this area.

OH! SUB HB 12! That I know! I'm a certified CCW instructor here. It was the missing Sub. that threw me.

I should also mention thet they recently passed the Castle Doctrine here too.

Since we are on the Victory Model subject , has anyone seen one with the Austrian Police ( Osterriech Poletzi in a circle on left side of frame ) stamp. It is the U.S.Property marked one with G.H.D. and bomb and is in 38 S&W instead of 38 S&W Special. It's in a local pawn shop with a price tag of $399.:dunno:

I seen one late summer, while trying to find a Navy like mine.
Don't recall the asking price. Had it in my watch box on GB for a few weeks. It had been automatically relisted a few times.
