Does anyone know if this is a real USGI sling? The rivets look different than any that I have seen, but then, I have never seen one dated 1985 either.
Thanks, Greg V

I can't answer your question, but that's a nice looking sling. Was it commercially available or is that a one-off acquisition?
Thanks.
No, this is the only one that I have seen. I have seen a lot of commercially available slings that look very similar, but they are usually unmarked or just MRT marked with no date.
It is GI. The government purchased many small lots each year, to supply/support the National Match shooters.
Bill: I thought Turner was selling slings to the Army and Marines? Correct?
Probably today, but back then I think it was a different company. I will not reveal the name because I cannot confirm it.
MRT isn't a brand is it? I thought I'd read that it was a mold treatment.
Yes, you are correct. MRT is Mildew Resistant Treated.
I have a 1986 MRT. Real nice sling.
Pete, any chance of seeing a picture?
I have a clean used one dated 1977, which was installed on a competitor's NM Rifle at Camp Perry in 1978.
I also saved two new in wrap 1960's NM slings:
4/63
7/66
I'll try a pic tomorrow
Gentlemen:
I bought my MRT 11-85 sling at the National Matches in the last years of the DCM program, from the DCM. It was new in a plastic bag and cost under $10.00. They sold out during the Pistol phase of the matches and I gave a friend one of the two I bought. Yes I know… This one is a little darker than new because I treated it with Turner’s Military Leather Dressing.

Thanks for the picture. It looks just like the one that I have.
Hi guys. If anybody wants to sell their earlier model M1907 slings (MRT and date marked, 1970s to 1980s, preferably in new/excellent condition), I would be glad to buy one.
I have a spec reproduction M40A1 rifle built off a Marine Corps return stock that could use a period correct sling.
Thanks guys.
There was a guy at the Costa Mesa, CA gun show weekend before last, who had seven or eight, MRT 11-85 M1907 slings mounted on his garands that he had for sale. He didn't have any loose ones and wouldn't remove any of those to sell. I walked around and did eventually find one for sale for $25. I never really looked for them before that show. I'm going to keep my eyes open for them now.
Interestingly enough:
Leather Sling - M1 GARAND RIFLE - National Match - eBay (item 120529462689 end time Feb-17-10 13:38:43 PST)
I was watching it for amusement. Was it worth it?
I've found a few dated 12-80 if anyone is interested. They should be at the house today. I'll post a picture.
Were all of the MRT marked slings dated?
For everyone interested:
I had found an online surplus store that had ~6 available. I was told by the company they were from a JROTC unit. These were the last of 50 slings they purchased.
I wanted to get one in hand before suggesting the place to others in case the sling wasn't as advertised/real. They were listed as NOS/Unissued. Mine were definitely issued and not NOS. All things considered, not a bad deal for ~$30.
They do not have any left for sale.
