I haven't laid eyes on this rifle yet but will soon enough, I bought it and it's in shipping.
I did my best to research the markings on the rifle and the configuration of everything. According to my research it is a (T).

All I need to do now is find a scope and base.
I plan on making my own period sniper box.

Check the 1944 Enfield No.4 Mk1(T) Sniper Rifle (Mfg by BSA Shirley - M47c) displayed in the England - Milsurp Knowledge Library.
It's also a 1944 BSA, perhaps compare all the markings on your No.4(T) against it?

Does it have Holland and Holland markings underneath the butt?

The transverse screw through the fore stock is indicative of service in the Indian Army.

I traced it back to BSA Shirley too so that makes me feel a lot better! :thup:
I was concerned about the wear on her too but for $750 I think I can clean her up and make her pretty again.

Nah. It served FIRST in WWII for a British unit, then was later shipped to India. Mind you, the fore end screw Could be British repair work, its just way more common on Indian rifles. I have the feeling that "experienced" rifles were the first to be shipped, there were plenty of new ones that were on hand at the time.

Mr. Mister, I didn't explain myself well in my first reply and I think you misunderstood me. The rifle is British made but spent some time in the Indian Army. It almost certainly spent some time in the British Army before being sent to India.
The Indian Army has a long history of warfare and proud traditions. The fact that a rifle served in that Army should add to the appeal and give it more provenance. :thup:
I got this information from years of collecting Lee Enfield rifles, handling every Lee Enfield that crosses my path and examining it, purchasing reference books and scanning the internet :beerchug:
The best reference I can refer you to at this time is a book called "India's Enfields" by Colonel Edwards.
Looking for a scope Mr Mister? Then DON'T waste money on a good one. Just go and find your self a bit of an old dog and have it rebuilt. It'll still work out cheaper than the rip-off price you'll be be charged for a perfect one. And some of the 'perfect' ones suffer from all sorts of optical problems not usually visible to the average punter/shooter
Remember this monetary formula. Cheap old dog + bit of money = pefection. Next bit of advice. Don't invade Russia

Talking of scopes I noticed in the Export from US of No. 32 Scope forum https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=18768, that he has a No.32 Mk.3 for sale, maybe we can get the two together to make a GOOD one. I would send him a PM and see what happens….
Makes sense the rifle was a hand me down-I feel a little better.
Nothing against Inadian's or the country but I have been after one of these sense I was 25 and finaly got one at 45: I wanted an all English model.
I tried that scope lead DanL96a1, I hope he returns my PM. Thanks for the lead.

Sarco has been around a long time and I wouldn't worry too much about buying from them, although I have no specific experience with their transit chest hardware they're advertising ... :thup:
I think many of our American friends here can perhaos tell you a lot more about them than I can ... ;)

I got some of the SARCOINC transit chest hardware last year. The hasps and staples are spot on but the hinges that came where from a bren chest I believe. They were squared backed with a long tongue. I couldn't find any pictures of original chests with that kind of hinge, though someone may be able to note if they were used at all.
All hardware came thick with about 6 layer of paint but metal was not pitted and after a quick lick of paint stripper and elbow grease they came up brilliantly. I built three chests in the last year all out of maple. A guy in England made all my leather, but the hard thing to find is the right felt in the appropriate thickness.
I live about 30 min from Sarco and frequent the store quite often. Good group to deal with. I dont have any experience with the transit chest hardware, but I've purchased a number of rifles from them over the years and other various parts, and have never had a problem. I actually bout my (T) from them recently.Quote:

Mr. Mister, That it served at some point with the Indians shouldn't be a buzz kill. Ishapore's rearsenals, like I've often said may lack in cosmetics, but function as expected. Price doesn't seem out of line, IMHO.
Find a cosmetically challenged 'scope to go with it, learn what ammo it likes and then shoot the black out of the target.

Well as it turns out the rifle I bought isn't going to meet up to my expectations.
The guy I bought it from is a real stand up guy and is taking it back.
