Is this a new toy Wheaty, or just for research ?
Wow. That must be from the .270, .280, .280/30 series of experimental rounds. Individual rounds are not uncommon, but I don't think you'll find too much original ammo in shooting quantities. Very nice.
Wheaty, Is the serial number 15T7049? The .280 example in the MOD pattern room is 15T7544, I'm just wondering if its 15T7549 and its just a bad pic of the number. The last Inglis I know of is 15T7593 but I'm not sure what cal this was.
We've got some .280! Fired some not 3 months ago at Shrivenham.......
Very nice Warren :)
If you hear a rustling one dark night in the 'shed ™' ......it may well be me !
Take care,Kevin
Thanks Warren ...
More pics needed ... :dancingbanana:

Which variation of the .280 cartridge is this chambered for?
How much ammo are we talking about?
Either .280 or .280/30 should chamber, only the extractor grooves are different.
I'm afraid that it isn't just the extractor grooves which differ.
.280 and .280/30 have different base diameters, case and shoulder lengths.
"Wheaty" started me on this particular road to ruin by selling me 4 cartridge varients of the series @10 years ago.
Now I could probably put a year or two's mortgage payments on my house if I could find someone to purchase my 30ish varients at full pop retail $
Unfortunately I've also started collecting "Pre-NATO" 7.62mm (I think the earliest dated case is '46) and trials 7.62mm from the mid-late 1950s also :sos::sos::help:
I'll have to check mine, I thought they only changed the extr. groove to match a .30-06 profile. I might be interested in some of your rounds. PM me if interested.
Just measured 3 each of .280 and .280/30. All the case, neck, head, and shoulder measurements were the same. The .280/30s have a taller extractor groove and .20mm larger rim. The .270 experimental has more differences, not to mention the 6.25, a necked-down .280/30.
