take it easy, sit it out. One thing I learned in life, is don't start shoveling until the snow is done falling. Another thing I learned is all the game is gonna be bedded down for a while, might as well sit in camp.

Hey Frank! - As you know I live In Md. dead south of Gettysburg, Pa. I got on my 55HP John Deere (No Cab:bitch:) with a 6 ft. wide snowblower mounted on the back. After running about 100 FT of my driveway I measured at six different locations for an average depth of 32"'s. I then did the 1/2 mile Farm lane to Mom's house; to a width of about 10 -12 feet. Mike, my son is a trucker. He had an oversized load (crusher headed to South America) delivering to the port in Baltimore on Fri. I told him to get there before the shoremen decided to go home, or he would be stuck there. He unloaded Fri. P.M. and got out of Dodge heading south to Tenn. He had to pull over, he said the snow was so heavy he couldn't see. He said they had signs up on the highway that the truck stops were full. He ended up pulling off on an exit and waiting it out. In the morning he saw a plow and salt truck down on the highway and pulled out and followed him. Boy you have alot of snow removal to do. I Wish I could lend you my Cat 933 wheel loader with it's 12' snow blade and heated cab. Take care, you're going to need the "Old Crow" when it's all over.....Frank:cheers:

Glad everything is cool with you guys in the country! We are doing OK in yuppie land as the youngest has an enviromonster truck (F150 Ford with 4wd and 5.4 L Triton engine) that is not the object of scorn in this weather. Stay safe guys as we are going to get hit again.

I'm a fed so I have been off the last couple of days (possible more if the snow continues). I have been using that 4x4 to transport dialysis patients to various appointments.

I live in Northern VA near DC, but the wife & I are currently on an extended stay (til March, or longer if the weather's not good up there) on the Gulf Coast of Texas. Long story short, we talked to our daughter in VA an hour ago & she said that the Governor of MD said that the weather's so bad he's ordered the snowplows off the roads because it's too dangerous! And here I
was grumbling because we're having rain tomorrow. Guess we're pretty lucky, by comparison.

Harrisburg PA received 18" over the weekend and today we have over 16" more with high winds and drifting. My back yard, after plowing out a run for the dog, looks like Mt Everest. Only the main streets have been plowed and the secondaries are terrible.
Md Governor did order that and I believe it was a good decision. I-83 between Balto. & York Pa. is Closed!. I-70 between Balto. and Frederick is Closed!! Sections of I-80 are CLOSED!Quote:

We just had 12.5 inches of snow in DALLAS!
The ALL TIME recorded record for snow at any time was 7.8 inches, but it almost never snows here.

We had little snow, but in grand southern tradition, it promptly melted and then froze into sheets overnight. Side roads are deadly right now.
60 miles of interstate just now, but only 1 fresh wreck, 5 abandoned vehicles, and about a dozen sets of overnight spinout tire tracks off the road.
Didn't want to stay at work, since they weren't offering any more OT today...
What kind of gets me is the now-it-alls in the North who gloat all over those of us south of the Mason Dixon Line when we get severe winter storms. Other than the fact that buying snow removal equipment for rare storms makes no financial sense, OK, here goes. The 10 heaviest snow accumulations in Baltimore exceed the same ten for Chicago by a long shot. Chicago went nearly 20 yr (1981-2000) without having a snow fall greater than 10 inches. Chicago averages 38 inches snow a year (Baltimore is at 80 inches so far). Incidentally this figure (80 inches) equals the all time record for Chicago. Not saying that our winters are more severe than those in Chicago, just pointing out our snow storms this year are nothing to joke about.
Got about 7 inches here in central SC. Made it the 5th largest accumulation recorded. Right now there is only some left in the shady spots. Earlier today pulled the kids around on their boogie boards with the lawnmower. :super:
Even talked the wife into jumping in the jonboat with the kids while I pulled it around the field with the minivan. Lots of fun. :dancingbanana:
