this mount just arrived, and easy as it is to mount, the rifle would not accept the mount, too small for the rifle's base. I called the SK mount folks, they tried and I tried, but no banana. or cigar. so, they were very nice and I will return the scout mount to them . anybody got a better idea?:madsmile::madsmile:
The S&K is a very nice scout mount. Probably the best I've seen. I have one. Are you going to exchange it or just return for your money?
What year/make/model of Swedish Mauser are you trying to mount it on? There are two rear sight bases for the m/96 and m/38. There is the older type with "stepped" base that would be on Oberndorf and C.G. m/96's as well as m/38's made from cut down m/96's (and without an updated rear sight). Then there is the Husqvarna "ramped" rear sight base with rear protectors. This base would be on all Husqvarna m/96's and m/38's as well as Oberndorf and C.G. m/38's that have had the barrel replaced or maybe just rear sight base updated.
S&K makes a base for both. Here are examples of the two:

S&K are a good company and the customer service is friendly but, they sure don't distinguish between the two Swedish Mauser Scout Mounts very well. Check your bill of sales to see what model number you ordered.

I certainly have seen your scout mount. She's a beaut. Probably better than the S&K (eating crow:p) since it sits lower, as you've said in the past.
I hope you start marketing that mount.

I'll be starting a large batch very soon. A few weeks yet. I'm going to try for about 55 pieces. I took delivery today of the steel to do more than that. I have a lot of requests so I better fill them.
A low mount is everything with a LER scope setup. You can't imagine the difference between little differences in height when you shoulder your rifle. This has always been at the top of the list of priorities in designing and making LER mounts. If its not low then its just like S&K. I want better.
Metzgeri -- of the two types of rear sights found on m/38 conversions, I call them the stepped base of the m/96 and the tangent base of the Husqvarna m/38 as they show up on conversions but not in high numbers. It means the entire barrel & rear sight assembly were installed, not just the rear sight. Its a nice little legitimate variation of the m/38 conversions.
No modifications to use the m/96 mount. That was actually #1 priority with a low mounting elevation 2nd.
I'll try and make this a regular stop on my circular forum visits. Badger has done a nice job here with the various libraries. Lots of good information.

OK, I have the correct mount now, and put on a small 1.5/5 leupold rifle scope, just to try it and it really is nice. So,. who knows what scope is the good fit and not so expensive to put on this Sweed. Any one with good ref's? Pleas send them along . thanks,

in my opinion should always an old scope be mounted to the rifle it looks much better. We have a lot of old scopes around from elderly hunters wich gave up their hobby. There are a lot of Hensoldt`s and Zeiss or Kahles scopes from the end 40th wich fit perfect to the Swede. You can get those scopes for $ 100 -120. Dont know if you have the possibility around your location to look at older Scopes. For the moment i have an Kahles from spring 1945. Good luck to find a good one!

gunner man: hey are the scopes you are suggesting, are they the long eye releif type, you know like a pistol long eye releif scope? I would like to get a LER scope so that the whole of the site piture shows well. have you got any ideas? thanks, duggaboy
Duggaboy, a few of them are for long eye relief, not so many but a few. I had the chance to shoot a Carl Gustav from a member of our Gun Club and he had an normal Zielvier from Zeiss on it and it was good to shoot with it at 100 yards. Good clear sight. On Saturday i´m looking to my gunsmith for my selfmade No4 T and than i´ll look for the scopes if there is a useable one so that i can tell you for what Type of old scope you can search.

yeah Gunner: thanks for the help, and I have a question about the type of ammo and/ or reloads for the sweed 96/38. Do you guys there shoot commercial ammo, that is not as hot as what we have here in the states or do you handload a reduced type load for the 96 ? I am reading the threads and everyone thinks that the sweeish mausers are not quite as strong a receiver as other later Mausers from Germany. thanks, Duggaboy PS: people here think these guns can blow up if shot with hot loaded ammo.
Duggaboy, i never heard that a Swede did blow up. I´ve seen a guy firing a M96 and open the bolt with an hammer. He said this is normal for him. We asked him if he wants to measure the speed of the round and he said yes. After doing all the calculation we had the result that his load was 12% over the maximum wich VV wrote in their Guide. He shot this loads since more than a year. I dont want to do this but it shows that the rifle is strong enough. We´re shooting factory ammo too, most time the PRVI because it is the best one. I reload it for my M38 with VV N140 powder and a 139grs Lapua Scenar bullet. My comrade shoot his M96 with a softer load and and the same bullet. He uses the VV N110. In their newest reloading guide VV gives an maximum speed of 2746fps for an 139grs Scenar bullet. So no fear to shoot factory ammo. And for the blow up, last november i´ve seen a K98k blown up after shooting the first round of factory ammo. After a research the police found out that it was an overpressure from the ammo. The round had more than 30% more pressure than it was allowed to have. A problem of the maker. The shooter had only a cut in two of his fingers. From that point nothing is safe.

i have a few swedes, one is over 100 years old and all three of them shoot this load extremely well in fact i killed a nice whitetail with my M38 that dropped in it's tracks with this load : 140gr hornaday > 45.0 IMR 4350 > FEDERAL 210 primer
