My only Enfield (so far)

I'll probably add a No. 4 Mk 1 if I come across a nice one.

Fine looking No.7! To bad that you couldn`t buy rifles in Germany. A dealer over here sells No.4 from the Italian Navy and there are some wonderful pieces in excellent condition for $ 600. Long Branch made with 5 groove barrels.

Congratulations - did you realise you'd got a 'rare' one ?

It took me years to get mine (Serial number BS1892).
UK prices are between US$1500 and $2000. I bet you got a bit better deal in the US ?

Just in case you dont know the history of these training rifles :

Although a No.7 Mk I, the British version is very different from it's Canadian counterpart. This rifle was a conversion of an existing No.4 and is interesting in that a BSA five-round commercial .22 magazine was welded into a SMLE Mk III* magazine to produce the only Enfield .22 repeater. These rifles were a special contract and produced exclusively for the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1948. Total production 2,500.

You are going to struggle to 'trump' a No7 with your next purchase (unless you are looking at an L42, Enforcer or 4T)

According to the fore-end, this NBo7 is based on a Mk1/2 or 2 body while mine is on a Mk1. Does anyone else have a Mk2 based No7 trainer?

Well looking at the forend, mine (BS1892) is a Mk1 as well - just to be sure - I took the trigger guard off and sure enough, its a Mk1

So is this rifle a .22? Or 303 british?

.22 cal. training rifle.

You have to really watch out for the recoil.

I find the recoil 'managable' the big problem is when at the range, the number of people who run-up to stop you shooting as they believe you've had a miss-fire

It has happened a couple of times, particularly if I've been using my No1 or No4 and then switch to the No7.

At 100 yards (with the No7) you can pull the trigger, get up, have a smoke and a cup-o-tea, then lie back down and see the impact.
