Just can't see enough of any markings to tell.
Did you use the 'Macrco' setting on your camera?

I had the camera set at its highest level of resolution (12 mp) and must have shot a dozen or so photos, with varying types of lighting or shading. Unfortunately this was the best I could do. FWIW, there doesn't seem to be anything visible below the point of the "V" or around the lower sides. I haven't disturbed the stock's finish, so I don't know if it would clean up to better show the image.
Try and take the images and adjust the size to say 6x8". The picture is such high-res that you can stretch it 5X and still be around 2.5 megapixels. You just need to resize them and crop them up.
Send me a few pics to my e-mail and I'll try and enhance the contrast on photoshop. I'll post them for you. Take me like 3 minutes.
Here you go:
I don't know but someone might. Crescent shape of some kind.

Good luck...
That looks like the ducks foot found on NM m1 garands.
If any of you are GCA members that was in an issue about 2 years ago and they had no idea what it meant.
I will see if I can scrape up the article.
Dave
Many thanks hammonje for the help on the photos. I'll send the photos i have so far via e-mail.
When you examine the symbol under a glass, there is a faint circle around the figure.
usgicollector,
I'm beginning to think this thing is the "mark of the beast." No one I've talked to can dope it out for me. My son is acquainted with Scott Duff through his re-enactment activities, so I'm going to try and have him get Scott to take a look at it.
Here are a few more. You can see the IO Inland mark with the ordnance bomb and cross-cannon cartouche in the slingwell.
Still looking for the significance of the crescent shaped mark. Any ideas????

I have seen that symbol somewhere before, but it escapes me where!
Range master,
I'm thinking the same thing............
Did we see it on the left front ring on a receiver, that someone posted?
Wondering if it could have been on our fellow members Bavarian, Commercial...etc web site?

P.S. Not sure if it's this computer acting up....BUT do you have to register and sign in for his sites now?
My PC is telling me so.
Or was it one that someone called a Eagles head?
It's bugging me to death now !!
Charlie
Maybe Jim Mock might be able to ID it.
I can't get on his sites........having problems with this PC since firing it up this morn.
Charlie
I remember something about it being a unit stamp, possibly U.D.T.
.....Frank
Here is the GCA article.
The stamp is not exactly the same, but very close

I managed to find the marked stock that reminds me of the one in this post.
Take a look at the pictures and 2 posts by 'Dirt Detective'............
My Carbine story - U.S. Militaria Forum
Think it might be the same stamp ?
Cheers,

P.S.
I added a link to this post on the other forum....... maybe get some more info
I tried to get a better look at it, but it was not a high-res photo. Looks like you found another. It looks like the same stamp to me.

I sent a PM to the member who posted the pictures on the other forum.
If he passes along his pics, I'll post them here.
Im hoping he's found some info about it.
Cheers,

I remember seeing an old sign from the 30s or 40s with an lodgo or emblem like that. It was an A with wings in a circle. "Autotire" comes to mind, but I know that is not right.
Maybe it's a Batman insignia.

I can get his sites O.K Charlie without registering. Was talking to Jim last night. Will try and find out if anything has changed. Mike.
I see that MR. John Holbrook from the 1911/A1 board has run across a REM RAND MSR with the 'Ducks Foot' stamp.
So we've seen this stamp now on Carbine stocks, M1 Garand Stocks and now the .45.
Does anyone recognize this mark????
FWIW,
