Only place in Canada where therebe one would be at the war museum in Ottawa .... IIRC there were only about a dozen or so of these things made as prototypes.
That's right! Maybe the small arms museum in Warminster, but I'll bet NO ONE's about to unhand one. I think there's one in the Citadel Hill museum in Halifax NS???
I have a seller who claims that he has one for sale...should I try and pick it up?
If the regimental budget allows... Be prepared to heve deep pockets for it! AND if you get it, we need extensive pics! Good luck on this one.
he just e-mail me today saying that he would like 300 pounds....is it worth it? (that includes shipping and handling)
I assume this is a DEWAT?
That converts to about $450 (Cdn) today....
Although I don't know anything about these, for a rare prototype, isn't that a real "steal"? :move eek:
Am I missing something?

lol thats what Im trying to figure out :P
all right....I will see what I can do...if I do get it Im sure to post pictures of it for everyone to drool on :P
So... this thing's in the UK? I wonder what that's going to be like to import? I agree with these guys that it's a good deal, and if it's a dewat then maybe it's ok to import??? I take it he's sent you extensive pics? By the way, yes Citadel Hill in Halifax has a Huot Ross but my pic is so bad from 1995 that it's useless. Maybe they could send you a digital for compareson.
yah Ive have to ask him if its functional or not, so now im waiting for the reply back....that or I can ask some of my friends in CBSA (Canada Border guards) if they can let it slide so that I can get it deactivated.
Odds of one of the Huots even being in England is between very slim and none.
However, there is a thriving community of Nigerian scammers working(?) there.I strongly suspect you've now met one.
My Model T Ford site is under their attention as well- ask for several clear photos of the item placed on the front page of The Sun, clearly showing the date....stops them cold! Likely twenty years ago, I met a gent at one of the Ohio Shows where I was displaying some of my Ross rifles, and he mentioned that he owned one, and that it was still functional BUT below the radar.
He offered to send me photos (and did) so I had no reason to disbelieve him.
With no way to bring it "on paper" it broke my heart, but I passed on the offer. To reduce it to Dewat/boat-anchor status was not an option.
If you are legitimately working for a military museum to repatriate an extremely scarce artifact and there is any doubt that the CBSA will give you grief, by all means get your curator to speak to the CWM's curator. These guys know the words to use to go many levels over the heads of the worker bee securocrats on the border. For 300 pounds you have a steal!

I think someone is "pullin yur ****er" on this one. There was a Huot for sale in Edmonton around 50 years ago as I saw it. It was complete with the case and two mags in a case. It "disappeared" shortly after that and I have an idea where it ended up.
