I remember reading an article on this at some point somewhere. Obvioulsy a new barrell, fitting a .223 mag inside the LE magazine and then silver soldering a collar to support the cartridge base onto the existing bolt head - then plenty of fiddling and fitting to get the thing to feed and ejct effectively. I have just got hold of a great candidate - a No.4 Faux sniper where the barrel has been left uncleaned after using corrosive ammo. Has anyone done this before or seen it done wel?

Any one use Craig Whitsey bolt head. Any idea on pricing. I've seen some very nice 223 conversions.
cost 106 POUNDS - so about $160 US for teh bolt head plus @0 pounds for a ground down pin.
Ok so I've checked out teh bolt head stuff, and though it's pricey it will be worth it. I can get a decent heavy barrel fitted also. SO teh big queston here is : Do i creat an L42 alike with a free floated barrel forward of the receiver or do I put the barrel inside the full stock and have it look like a No.4 - of course this isnot purely asthetic, is bedding going to be an issue in the full stock, would a free floated havey .223 barrel shot better? opinions please?
They will need an export licence, in addition whatever formalities the State Deapartment will demand, and since it is a registrable part they will not just mail it out.
Well that makes it expensive for guys this side of the pond. The export deal sucks!
I've seen two conversions. One with a heavy barrel (Kreiger) that shot extremely well....it was put together by Jim Duggan. He won a DCRA championship with it. The other was a barrel profiled to the No4 configuration in full wood. Told there were a few of these done by somebody in Canada for the Gov't .
Anybody have any details on these Enfields?

Now a note on the post two up. Export licencem registerable part? This is a bolt head we're talking about, it's not "registerable", my rifles aren't even registerable. I'm not importing the whole rifle, just asking them to mail me a bolt head.
In the UK Firearm 'pressure parts' (action, barrel, bolt, bolt head) are 'registerable', If you want to buy a spare bolt head you must apply to the Police for a variation to your Firearms Certificate (FAC) to allow the purchase, your FAC is stamped up with 'authority to buy one bolt head' and this must be shown to the dealer selling the bolt head. Once you have purchased the aforesaid bolt head you must write to the Police informing them of the purchase and the dealer must log the sale (name & address) into his sales book for Police inspection.
This does NOT apply to shotguns (only 'firearms') I have a 410 calibre No1 MK3 and a 410 calibre No4, and have a number of spare bolt heads for both of them - you never know when you'll need to adjust the headspace on that shotgun.

What happens when I want a bolt head sending to France?
To build a 222 a free to buy section here. NOT a 223 which is our section 1 here,
What would a dealer need to post it to France.
Probably the same, without the import licence bit, as we're not in the Schengen Area and the free movement of goods and services in the Single Market was never intended to apply to guns.
Man that sucks. How sad and strange that I had to move to America to be able to collect British guns easily!
