Afternoon folks, I bought a "Jungle Carbine" a while back, mainly as the price was too good to pass up. The previous owner was overly optomistic in their regards to its accuracy and fitted a scope to it. In the proccess, removing the battle sights (Front and Rear) and Bayonette Boss.
I wouldnt mind getting restored to its orginal configuration but I am at a loss as to where to obtain those parts. Any ideas?
Was the receiver drilled and tapped for a scope mount? If so it may be cheaper in the long run to start with a more complete rifle.

He is in Regional Western Australia. I would look up and start with one of your local clubs. Make some contact and see where in your area LE parts may be available.

My mistake, have you tried http://www.westernfirearms.com.au/, I have not used them, but they were recommeded to me by a Southern Hemispherer.

Looking at the reciever, it has been drilled to fit the mounts.
Bugga.. :banghead: Was hoping it was going to something easy and straight forward, but alas... not to be.
Guess the old saying you get what you pay for has some merit after all. :)
Ill have a look on a couple of those sites you mentioned and see what I can do.
Think the nearest repairer is 240km away so I might just buy a new rifle that hasnt been modified..The wood and bolt are in great condition still, and the barrel still has a pretty usable bore. Would I be crucified for using it as spare parts??

I was hoping that I could restore the firearm back to original, as it saw service in Malaya and Borneo post ww2 with the ADF.
I will give that a go.
Sounds like it is worth the work. Tapped holes can be plugged and made to be nearly invisible, it's not difficult at all, more work to get the finish back than anything.
That seems like the answer smeagain. If it was used in Malaya, then plug and weld the holes, get it phosphated and repainred in sunkorite and you're back to 40 Base Workshop standard spec again!
I've got a rear sight here, if needed.
Personally I would prefer to deal with a member. If the shipping works out, there are a number of rear sights on eBay and gunbroker.com right now as well.Quote:

In the US, parts other than the receiver and in some municipalities the magazines, there are few restrictions. In Australia?
Thanks to all. I have managed to track down the sights and boss. A local (well as local as I can find) has the know how and will be plugging the holes in the reciever. I will if i remember get some happy snaps of the restoration.. but think it is a simple process compared to some of the ones Ive seen on here.
