I am curious too. Weren't early Winchesters blued, too? I seems to me the early, ugly (funny looking I cut stock, flip sight and narrow band) Winchester I had about 1982 or 1983 was blued. I was unenlightened back then and carbines were just shooters. I was so stupid I traded it for a cool one that had the bayonet lug and "good" rear sights. Ugh, what I would give for that one again! I shot it from a sandbag rest and got 2-3" at 100 yards with surplus GI ammo!

In the old day's the pawn shops in Vancouver BC had guns. We woulkd go on visits to buy stuff and all came back with carbines. They were all there and through time I had all different, spring tube, flip sight, high wood, I cut, flat bolt, type 1 band, all the makers exept IP, and eventually all the later feature. All guns were as new condition as I remember. All those guns dissapeared into the void and I hope they found good homes.

A friend was looking at a 165K Inland all patina outside kinda greyish in color and thin, up under the stock in the nooks it looks like bluing., I think the gun may be original sans low-wood mod and adjustable sight.
I'd like to learn more about early Inland colours too. Do you guys think these look right ? Top. a five digit, below. a six digit. So much info is available now it's hard to know what is right and what is not. Thanks.
Mike,Early Inlands were two tone blue. Check below the wood line and you should be able to see a line along the receiver dividing the top and bottom of the receiver. If the line is there the odds are it's the original finish.
One of the Inlands I saw was a 98% original finish which belongs to a friend, and I saw it completely dismantled right after he bought it. There was no two tone on it. Wear might account for the color above and below the wood line being different.
I have 110xxx and it does not look two tone, but if you look closely at the very end of the OSH and the left side it just has a very small amount of area that was not blasted before finishing. These small areas and the bottom of the receiver are both a deep shiny blue/black and that top/exposed areas are a worn dull grayish/blue color. I have a near new 5.19 that is a two tone parkerized color very similar to receiver pictured in the CC newsletter about Inland second block. Both have the color change on the barrel from the areas not blated and covered by the band during finishing. I will post a couple pics to show the difference.
