Unless I am reading it wrong, one just sold today at the Rock Island Auctions Sept auction for $145,000.00 !!!:yikes:
I did not bid :)
That was $145,000 plus the buyer's commission.
Yes a phone bidder so that add`s 17% . the top 2 bidder`s were phone bidder`s . From what I was told the bidder`s thinned out at around 100k and by the time it got to 140k it was down 2 phone bidder`s . I went and looked at it for one of the bidder`s and it was the real deal. I looked at 4 gun`s and one of them was the1940 CSR it was browned out bad on the front strap with some small pitting on the front strap (none that you could see in the photo`s ) and had way more browning on the slide than the pic`s shown . The minty 1918 JMG that was the next lot after the 40 had a black Army slide on it did not even come close to matching the frame . The frame was a nice dark blue correct finish but man oh man the slide was black Army all the way(sure looked like they matched in the photo`s ) I know if I ever go after anything at that or any other auction house I will go look first !!
Thank you Troy for the on-site feedback. It may be quite some time before a Singer that nice sees the light of day again. I was wondering about that 1918 as well...
The upcoming Julia Auction Singer seems to have potential........
Well I was wrong about the 17% buyer`s prem .It was a phone bidder that won it he or she must have had a pre approved check or they paid cash to get the 15% buyer`s prem. As far as the detail`s of the gun I cannot comment on them as I was paid to drive 7hr`s each way to go look at it for one of the bidder`s . The fact that I said it was the real deal was after the auction and I`m sure most realized it was a real Singer after the hammer dropped. The 40 & the 18 I looked at for myself .
ill pass - too rich for my blood
I inspected that pistol (inside and out) at KC, and then again at the auction for bidders. I'll concede that being the "real deal" and being all correct/ all original may be two different things.
my good friend at one time was issued a singer in the army and said "what? I have to shoot with a sewing machine". he wishes he had that one today. i'm sure it was armory mixed up as it was in the 70's. but i no nothing!
Which always brings up the question, how did he know it was made by Singer Sewing Machine?
