9/11 remembered

I was already retired a year, and was doing some work around the house that morning. The wife was still teaching and talking about retirement..Just about 9AM my fire pager went off with a general alarm. I hopped in my car and beat it up to the house (Fire rescue company) When I got there the LT filled us in on what happened Our Captain was NYPD and was in the city. I called the wife at work and she told me it was all over the news. Everyone was clustered around TV sets. At noon that day we got orders from the Chief to get ready to go into the City. We spent the next 2 days following FDNY around eastern Queens You know a couple years ago someone who was downtown that morning and had to run for it told me that she now understands what her Father and the rest of us Veteran went through I wonder

Such a sad day in history. It is such a tragedy that a group of people who have no regard for human life want the world to be like they think it should be. Here in Canada we have been fortunate enough to have avoided this type of terrorism but aware it could happen anytime. This terrorism has polarized the world into "them and us". I am happy that countless military and police members have helped protect me from "them"

We all need to keep our guard up. Remember, they now live amongst us. Attacks from within are hard to predict or prepare for.

A sad day in history.

On this day my thoughts go out to everyone who lost someone close to them on that day, and indeed to us all.

Am I alone .... in experiencing ... the real need for .... REVENGE!?

I agree that we all need to be vigilant. It has been proven too often "they" live among us. Yes paulm I am careful, very careful. I don't worry about myself as much as my children and grandchildren knowing some are so young and I won't be here someday to help them. Am I paranoid, absolutlely not just cautious.

My great fear is that our children and grandchildren will forget what happened here, on U.S. soil. Those of us who were babies during WWII, children during the "Korean Police Action", participated in the VN campaign, participated or watched the "Operation Just Cause", "Gulf War", OIF and OEF from retirement hopefully understand the need for vigilance and will teach our children that same vigilance and the righteousness of meaningful response to any attempts to destroy our nation and its constitutional heritage. God Bless America, now as never before.

Old Crow A good part of this society cannot even tell you who the Father of our country is. Some of them cannot remember what they had for Breakfast yesterday morning.. Ask them where Normandy is and they're liable to tell you Wisconsin. You want them to remember a war we fought 40 years ago? Surely you jest my Brother. Merely accept them for the forgetful boobs that they are, and try to remember that there is good in all of them. You just have to rely on the fact that they'll be there when, and if they're needed Good Luck and God Bless

The problem is that we let the core of the instigators escape immediate retribution.

I think that a burning book in remembrance is a futile gesture , regardless of how upset they get , now , would burning 3000 books every year make any difference ? I guess probably not . Forgiveness and appeasement is seen by them as weakness . Revenge can be sweet , but it does tend to stoke the fire a bit , and the problem doesn't go away . Superior strength and unwavering resolution are the only things that may get them to stop and think . It would help if we could find some way of not filling their pockets with petro-dollars . My thoughts are for all the broken families left behind .

I have loved 'history' for as long as I have lived; I'd have become a professor of history but for the need to feed my family. I cannot understand how anyone is not interested in the what, when, where and why of the human race. Perhaps instant-communication with its seconds-ago legacy is now "history"? Over the last two years a new Pakistani administration has been elected . Paki military and law enforcement have been active in the tribal areas, and ( according to The Army Times ) US units have been working with the Pakistani Frontier Corps for over one year.

Killed :5 kids 1 adult .
Wounded:14 kids 2 adults .
In at least two (2) incidents.
" This is to teach them a lesson and we will continue to carry out our attacks ... no matter if it is a school or a school bus." said a taliban spokesman.
