I have a LOT of Remington 700 action based rifles and I've never had a problem with any of them. :confused:
Anyone else here have problems?

It's news to me! I understand the theory, but I have never seen this malfunction or even heard it discussed by other gunsmiths. On the other hand, I've seen plenty that were unsafe due to folks trying to adjust or "improve" the trigger pull. In those case, there have been obvious signs of tampering, usually accompanied w/ a tale of woe that involves a third party who did the dirty deed.

It's the world we live in. Someone (else) must be to blame for everything.
I wonder if it's similar to all of the 'sudden acceleration' cases where the cars won't stop no matter how hard the driver steps on the accelerator pedal?
There was quite a documentary about this problem on TV tonight. They did a interview with the man that designed/developed the 700 and he said he knew there was a problem early on but Remington didn't want to spent the 5 cents (yes five cents per gun) to solve the problem early on in production. The man is 94 years old and still with it. Apparently there are two attempts right now at class action laws suits. It showed a video of a police/military sniper having a misfire, just touching the bolt handle and the gun fired. Only time will tell what is going to happen. OH the estimation to fix the problem today (refit all the guns) was quoted at 300 million US dollars, more than Reminton is worth.
My dad has a BDL with the safety recall out on it, but he's never had any problems with it. It works great, and so he says he doesn't want to send it in and let somebody screw with it. Honestly though, just about every firearms related accident could be avoided by keeping the chamber empty until it's time to shoot.
Funny that is exactly what my son said yesterday when we watched the documentary. Only problem is with military/police who always have a round in the chamber. Also could be a problem if a person decided against firing and went to open the bolt and ???.Quote:

I heard about this problem several years back. Something about the round going off when when you closed the bolt. That was at least 15 years ago.
I've seen far more trouble with the aftermarket Remington triggers! (regardless of brand- folk want to tweak them to the point of "scary"!) The worst part is that the new Remington design INVITES it's replacement with said aftermarket. But it would mean they're no longer liable, I guess.

I had an Rem. 870 12 gauge whose muzzle suddenly peeled back like a banana when I was bird hunting. This was about 15 years ago.
I wrote Remington and they told me that I has obstructed the bore or other BS.
It was the first shot of the day and I was about 100 yards from my truck in a open field. I also carry the shotgun broken down in the truck and then put the gun together. I always check the bore.
Remigton told me to send the barrel back and they would look into the problem. They did send me a new vent rib barrel top replace the one that was destroyed. Rem. said that it was not the fault of the gun maker.
Then one month later I read that Remington was recalling 870 barrels for a manufacturing defect. I was not too happy about that but I did get a new barrel. However, if one of those fingers had broken off the barrel, I probably would not be here today....
:dancingbanana: How many peeled 'nanner barrlels have I seen over the years? Mmmm, probably a bushel basket or so. Rifles, pistols, revolvers, shotguns. Very few that looked like manufacturing or steel defects. Only one stands out in my memory- a Ruger Super Blackhawk whose barrel ruptured from the frame almost to the muzzle. You could see the inclusions and coarse grain structure almost w/o magnification.
Remingtons don't seem to suffer any more dramas than anyone else. Amazing, almost, as there's no proof laws in the U.S.
Was just sent a link to You Tube with a story by CNBC about the Remington 700 rifle. This program dispells the belief that the 700 has trigger problems showing documentation that was never refered to in the original broadcast. Hopefully you can find it as it is very intersting.
