I'd be willing to bet they clean up well. Afghanistan is very dry and arid, mostly dust is the issue. Dust and surface mold.
Two things they seem to have ALOT of:
-Enfield No.4's
-MN 91/30 bayonets.
Those are not 91/30 bayonets, but the much rarer socket-ring MN 1891 bayonets!
"Five minutes alone, that's all I need..."
In my dreams ;)
Always fun to see such weapon casches.
I recall seeing a weapons depot in Bosnia. Tons of mg34's and other neat stuff.
BTW, those are bren guns we see in a couple of those pictures, right?
As if...check out the pristine wood just under the dust in the eight pic!
How do you get invited to these little excursions?
On second thought, I don't want to know.
Jeez.
So...when can we expect the FLOOD of 100 buck Enfields?!:D
If I was there I would be like a kid in a candy store.:beerchug:
Looks to me like some of these were dipped in old motor oil before storage. There is a chance that perhaps a minority of these rifles would be in good condition but I seriously doubt it.
For those rifles I did get to see there was very little blueing left. These things have been used, abused and probably never properly cleaned. A nice place to collect some wall hangers or a collection of parts in my opinion.
It would take me several hours to root through the chaff but I am sure I could fill the back of a toyota pickup with some goodies. There was a huge stack of no4's and PPSH's.
I also found it interesting/sad that there were literally tons of cheap surplus subguns like the PPSH and the M3 dumped on Afghanistan.
I'm sure with alot of TLC, there is a fair chunk of change sitting on those shelves.
that's freakin incredible! Look how well a lot of the guns from the Nepalese cache cleaned up, after 150 years. Those afghan guns have been sitting no more than 60, I bet there are some great pieces in there!
you think they will be for sale in canada soon?
Not likely! I can't see any of those guns being let back in, what with current UN position on small arms, etc etc. :banghead: There is a tantalizing number of Brens there though. I was talking to one of the guys who's been over there, and he said they ran into a few people carrying MP40's and also STG44's. Love to go there on a buying trip........ Of course, I probably wouldn't survive, :bash: but it would be a fun trip while alive.
yes i didn,t think that they would.
I wonder how many of those weapons were locally made copies.
Holly crap, that place looks just like Sarcos! Well almost, a little less dusty I suppose-SDH
Probably a few ...
How's this for quality control on stamping of markings ... ;)

Haha, I suppose a lot of the ones in the cache are like that!
It does not matter how dangerous the place is ,if your there to give the guy in charge a lot of US dollars for what to him is a pile of junk you are going to be safer than in Toronto. Probably the hardest part would be to convince the guy you are for real and that your really want those old bolt actions and machine guns that the only person who can remember seeing ammo for it is the village elder.
5 minutes? I could spend a week....LOL
Being into Stens, I liked those Mk5 (under the M3). Some had muzzle break, some didn't. Well, with or withoutout it, I like Stens with all their drawbacks and uglyness
