I was hoping someone knows where to get a striker protrusion gauge for my No. 1 Mk. III rifles or if one can be made at home. I would imagine it has a max and min. notch in it. Looking through Skennerton's book it looks like a combo tool has a striker gauge on it. One of those would be great also. Any help would be appreciated.
The minimum is .040 and maximum .050.
I found a photo of one in my files, poster of photo not saved. Looks to me a person that was handy could make one.

Would those tolerances also apply to a No.4 MKI ?

You can get a variety of military specification Armourers tools from Arrowmark Tool & Gauge Pty Ltd. in Australia. The website is: Arrowmark Tool . It's excellent quality stuff.
ickmann, there was a drawing in and old NRA magazine that I copied. Will post a photo of the firing pin tool if that is what you want.
If you do make one, just make sure that the tangs that unscrew the striker are TOUGH. Not just case hardened but TOUGH steel. If not, they'll shear off and that's when the big problems can really start.
And I know it's pretty obvious, but we've all done it............... don't forget to unscrew the screw, striker in the cocking piece
I just took a Mosin tool and ground it flat to have an accurate base and then ground in the appropriate depth notches. Stamped basic numbers to ID each slot. Pretty easy and seems to work just fine.
Yes I had read many a sad story of how guys bought a tool and sheared off the tangs the first time they used it. The guys on the forum wrote to soak the bolt in paint thinner overnight then give the tool a try. After ordering a firing pin tool from Gun Parts and paying $10.00 plus shipping I did just that and am happy to say my tool is still intact.
Its the combination tool that I'm looking to try a hand at reproducing although the firing pin removal tool looks a bit easier to fabricate. A lot less cutting and shaping. I guess a simple piece of flat stock with the appropriate depth of notches would be the easiest way to go. I think I have seen something like that while searching for a combo tool.
