Ed,
Thank you sir. My 03' came with one and one side just wont budge. The side with the oil in it. , Jay
The side with the leather bumper contains the bore brush and the pull thru, the plain end contains the oil reservoir and the dipper/oil application needle.
D.
I got it apart, mine still has oil in it and it doesnt look to have been opend for 60 years. Just as nice as the one you put up a picture of but the string in my kit is white.
congrats , i think having the kit in the buttrap is as valuable as the pointy bit on the muzzle and this completes the rifles , just me ... i like my accoutrements

I agree with A square 10, I want the whole rig. Cartridge belt and sling and all.
I have every little thing made for the M1 Garand basic service rifle. Im almost there with the Enfield No4 , and im a good bit on the way with the M1903. The 1918 SA bayonet set me back a little.
Which kit is appropriate for an 03-A3? The plastic one or the metal one or either?
Correct for us, as collectors. We like to dress items up according to dates. But that is not the reality of the supply system. Both items were in use through the 1960's and what was issued depended upon what was in the supply system of the local unit.Quote:
The plastic one is correct for the 03-A3.
Back in the 1970's I got a large bid of Nickle Brass oilers and several had the M10 (Garand item) cleaning rod handle inside, both early and late types, indicating the oilers were issued after 1962, the first date of the late M10 handle.
In reality both the 03 and 03A3 could have been issued either one, once the plastic one was in existence circa mid to late 1943.
BTW the plastic thong case was produced again in 1958 in support of the M10 Cleaning Rod system.
