I am sending a '43 Ingliss Mk. II parts kit out to get built into a semi and have come across 2 tripods and would like to know how and where they are marked ? I also would like a approximate value as I do not have a clue nor does the fellow who has them and as he is a very good friend and does not remember what he paid I'd like to be fair. The tripods have the 2 straight legs and the single extendable one. I appreciate you help. Thanks, John.
The serial number and date along with a makers mark/code are usually found adjacent to the forward gun mounting point... early models have a milled slot for a bayonet lug... markings are in here. Later the lug cut was not made but the numbering etc. was stamped in this same location. On some makers you will find maker marks or codes on various parts/components... For example, BSA used the three crossed rifle stamp or a "B" on many parts. There are several design details that can impact price. Early design had a third leg for Anti Aircraft configuration stowed in the side rail tubes. A short gun mounting arm for the AA configuration is located on the front leg above the extended foot section. These early MkI tripods tend to be harder to find and go for more. In the US it could be $450.00 to $650.00 or more depending upon condition. Then there are the transitional designs that were war time production expedients... most left off AA capability in some form... these are, in the US, currently going for $400.00 to $550.00 depending upon condition. The craze of having Bren semi auto built has caused a demand that is greater than the supply so they tend to go fast when they appear on the open market. Maybe I'm part of the craze. Heck, I spelled Inglis wrong ! A friend has had these kits for about 10 years and the tripods were boxed up until last week and the newspaper dates are '01. He's decided to thin out his many parts kits and get a semi Barret .50 and asked me if I wanted 2nd choice of the ones he has at original cost. Needless to say I could not say no. I'm also eyeing a MG34 TC parts kit w/drums and belts and spare barrel.
I sold a dozen CCM, (Canadian) and BSA tripods a few years ago for $450 each. Most were Mk1 and missing the AA leg. I did have a few that were complete with the AA leg. You couldn't give Bren tripods away here in the USA until the semi-auto builds came on the market. When that happened I started carrying a couple to every show and my supply was exhausted in no time.
In the UK its quite hard to find a CCM made tripod, almost as hard to find a BSA mk1 but were flooded with AGE Mk1s, loads of em.
I have a 1939 BSA Mk1 tripod. It was a package deal with a deact 1945 Lithgow Bren, transit chest, filled magazine box and cleaning kit. £200 for the lot in 1999. Those were days...
All of the tripods I had were imported from Canada. The CCM tripods were all marked with New Zealand ownership marks. There was one lonely CCM Mk.2 with a Canadian ownership mark that I promptly snatched out of inventory when I bought my Inglis Mk.2 in 2001. I reckon they'll stay together for the duration now. I had a dozen or so for quite a while and couldn't give them away here in the USA until the semi-auto builds starting hitting the market. Then they sold like hot cakes.
Well my buddy found the invoice and he paid $175 each. I gave him $425 and feel that that was fair. I will get it cleaned up and check all the details and post pics and info. when I get my other multiple other projects done. Thanks for the info.,John.
You did good John. I had neck surgery in 2008 so I really like shooting using the tripod too. There's nothing like shooting in the the prone position but the vibration gets me a bit as my neck will never be quite right. Enjoy.

Putting aside the parts I need to make up the 3 tripods frames I have some of the bits you need.I have a spare tripod head and the keyed flat locking washer.I do not have a spare spring washer (which should not be to much of a problem) or the set screw which you would have to make.I can give you sizes and drawings/pics for this if this will help ?

Sorry Alan,it's mostly MK2 parts apart from MKI traverse stops and items common to both MK's.

Hi Tankhunter thanks for the reply. when I got my Mk1 tripod someone had removed the bracket of the AA mount on the front leg and the spring loaded keeper for the bayonet lug was missing, Kev put me on to Apex who had the front leg comlete with bracket and I built the spring loaded keeper for the bayonet lug. I used a transfer centerpunch to make it out of as it was the perfect diameter. I do know about using the SMLE for the front leg but am just trying to complete the tripod. I think that the SMLE lookes neater as well . I have 2 Brens a Mk1m and a Mk11 both Inglises Mine are both the IO 3 cut type. I bought a heliark welder and am in the midst of welding the first one up, it is a slow go as my lovely wife decided that we should do an extensive remodle job on the house this summer. I am building them as semi automatics to meet BATF spesificatins, as a stretch in cub fed is not how I want to spend the rest of my retirment. I have 2 transit crates the short and regular, a crate of magazines, a tool wallet, I have ordered a bren tin and oil can and am trying to find all the rest of the bits and bobs so I can have a nice display at the collecters club which I belong to. I have been an enfield collector for some time and have about 80 of them, which includes 2 No4 Mk1 snipers with all the bits and bob and a Lithgow No3 Mk1HT also a Patern 14 sniper without scope. I am new to Brens and appreciate all the knoledgable people on this site who have helped me. Alan Abramson H

I've got a Tripod that's slowly making it's way to the East coast, and will hopefully meet me there when I get home from this deployment in September....but it's missing the stops.
What would it cost for the stops, and do you have enough to sell what I'd be needing?
