Ok you Garand pros out there. I have a question for you, which is the better grease Plastilube or Lubriplate? Now I know where to purchase a new container of Lubriplate but what about Plastilube? Is Plastilube considered number 1 or number 2 grease or neither? Well what do you think?
I've always heard lubriplate.
I have some tell me quaker state bearing grease and lubriplate 130-a which is available at some suppliers. I suppose since we are not fighting in the jungles or the deep winter that the bearing grease would be fine, but I would also think to stay to a recomended grease, I guess it's a toss up.
Niether, I use Valvoline red lithium bearing grease on sliding parts and Hoppes gun oil on rotating parts.
I use wheel bearing grease. I picked the green stuff because I found the colour attractive.
Don't overthink it.
lubriplate for me, mostly because I already had it.
I never use any of it. Just rifle oil. Never had any problems either.
You Know Jim when I was in the USMC I had an M-14 that we just oiled, I can't remember if we used grease. I do remember using a light covering of oil.
With the F.N.s we used a light coat of ESSO rifle oil, something that was engineered for the job. Red and silver cans.
If it turns you oil it, if it slides you grease it.

In the Marine Corps during the time the M1 Garand was in use you would have used Lubriplate. The yellow/cream colored grease in the small plastic container. Semper Fi, JoeQuote:

I prefer Plastilube, but the "real stuff" in the little GI containers is harder to find than other greases any more. Mostly I use "Superlube" (I think that's the name- A nice clear synthetic grease), but haven't altogether abandoned Lubriplate either.
