Will No.4Mk1* wood fit a No.4Mk.2 Enfield? I have a mark 2 but I can't find wood for it, so could I use the Mk.1 stock and just remove the wee partition at the back of the bottom forestock? Is it that simple?
Thanks

That has been done many times before. The only real problem will be that the tie plate in the back must be cut in half, or altogether removed and the areas filled. If you have the sporterised mk2 stock, you can transfer the rear hardware accross.
Of course, you may also have to properly bed the rifle action in to the stock. The muzzle of the barrel should rest firmly in the bottom of the front of the forestock, with a pulloff of about 3-6 pounds. If lifted up and right or left, it should go back down to the center.
Thanks, stencollector! I have a bubba'd stock to use parts from.

Easier just ot watch e-bay for a Mk2 stock - they are out there.

and call Numrich, ask for the international order lady and order it. I've recently looked into one of those for my No 4 Mk 2.
I received the No4 stock and it is a Mk.1 stock. I will leave the stock that is on the Mk.2 in place. I can't bring myself to cut the Mk.1 stock to fit the Mk.2. I will wait until a Mk.2 stock comes along. I also received a Mk.1 stock from Numrich, it is brand new, I had to trim the butt stock and the fore stock to fit.
When it comes to wood fit. The tension allpied on the wood north of the reciever had a direct impact on accuracy. You may wish to find the spec. as defined by the maker (Enfield) and groom the wood to fit the standard set by them.HTH-SDH
Oatmeal- do you mean Numrich sent you the wrong item? I'd be on the phone to them asking them to send you a n/c correct part...you did order the No 4 mk 2 part right?
On my No 4 Mk 2 that I just posted pics of with the C1 flash hider, I ended up keeping the sporter forend and cutting down the top wood to fit it since it was that different mk 2 setup and I also didn't want to butcher a Mk 1 piece to fit...
Cantom, The one from Numrich is exactly what I ordered. I bought a Mk1 stock on Ebay with the idea of cutting to fit a Mk2. I just couldn't bring myself to destroy a stock.
the short answer, yes.
To convert my sporterized No 1 M III back to full wood. I have checked for parts, nosecaps etc.
Is this something a general joe can do or will I need a gunsmith to do this for me?
I am in the same boat, I need some SMLE stock parts.

then click on the picture to enlarge it. You'll have numbers for each part you'll need. Cheapest bet is to buy the complete stock assembly, no idea how good they are but I'm close to getting one myself. You'll also need the myriad of screws, bands, bolts, sling swivels, etc. Get every number written down and:
If you're in Canada, call them and ask for Renate(I think) in international orders. Otherwise you can probably order online.
To add to what Cantom said, Numrich ships by air and, from my experience, if you keep the order under $100 you won't be charged duty.
