Does anyone know how many un-quality survived ?
I think I read estimate of maybe only under 10,000 were actually made or accepted in carb club newsletter
US&S delivered 28,949 receivers to Quality Hardware.
None of statistics of the Greek or Italian returns show the percentage of to be that high a number. It seems possible a bunch were rejected. I read that somewhere
So some had to be lost in action and some to other countries, So a good guess is 10.000.
No one has a real count as to how many of any maker has survived to today. Guessimates from data sheets, what you see at the shows, things like that are a general clue. And what's stuffed away in grandpa's closet? What is known is Un-Quality guns are hard to come by.
one is on gunbroker now, and i seen an auction today where a guy was asking $799 for 5 de-milled receivers
What is "Un-Quality"? I know Underwood made lots of barrels for Qual Hdwr but not sure what this thread is about.
Union Switch & Signal made receivers fir QHMC.
They were marked on the heel UN-QUALITY.
They are a more rare variant and popular because of the name and the way it reads.
WTMR should know the number remaining because he has 3/4's of them!!!
Ok, here is what the second part of the question should be...
Out of those that survived/still exist, how many are NOT imported marked?
Type in UN-Quality in the Search Box at the top right of this page. It will bring up several previous threads on UN Q's/QHMC's
who is WTMR?
No one should answer that other than he himself, kinda the idea of user names. Look back through the posts for the past week or so you should find one he has responded to and send him a PM.
I was fortunate to be able to buy two "UN-Quality" barreled receivers through the Carbine Club about ten years ago --they cost $328 each at the time. After putting them together with all correct QHMC parts (according to Carbine Club Newsletter #338, November 2006), I still have fun taking one of them to a gunshow table that offers several carbines and playing dumb newbie, asking, "What is this, some kind of reject?" then waiting to see what the guy does! You'd probably not be surprised how many tell me it's a reject that was never accepted, but he'll give me $350 for it anyway!
It was a joke.
I've been thinking about selling mine. Its a little too common for my collection.....Just too many around, you know, like the Irwin Pedersons.......
Hey Jim,
I'll help you with that space problem you have. How about $400 per Un-Quality that I take off your hands. It will keep you from having to clean and oil them before you put them back into your safe.
(Oh, that's you pay ME $400 per carbine that I take off your hands)
I'll help you out and even pay shipping on that for you!
Naw, $400 is a little too steep. The trash collector will haul it to the dump for $10.
wtmr: Is a farmer who likes to hunt hogs, day or night. At night, he says, You can't see'm till they are real close. You smell them first and shoot. Owns one junker carbine, a import Blue Sky with a 9m/m muzzle, I think. He said, I put a flash light ducktaped to the barrel. I then turn it on and empty the mag. Great fun. He told me once, he actually got one that way. When he runs out of ammo, he uses his Jeep to run them over.
Score to date: Hogs 1, wtmr zero.
He does sell on GB from time to time. I have bought from him many times.
If I have a carbine question, I email wtmr first.
Slow day and BQ does not post much anymore.
Jim, Good to see you posting.
Bubba, when have YOU had a carbine question?
Yes, I go to wtmr first and Chris A. second.
That's who I ask also.
I ask Jim F. If he doesn't know I figure it'd be too far over my head to understand anyway!
(Besides, his answers are usually explained in more than two words so I can understand what he means at my novice level) ;)
I know more about slot cars then carbines. But then I have been running my cars since 1966 and only into carbines since about 1975.
Some people are just easier to talk to then others. But I would go to the person I thought most knowledgeable on what help I needed.
There are guys who really know their stuff about original parts, markings, or transition times. Others who know wood work, And still others on web gear or accessories.
Time invested whether it be by reading or hands on is time well spent. You will not always find the answer in a book. That's when you ask someone. Too many people ask first instead of at least trying to figure it out on their own. When something has stumped you, then you figure it out, it is a gratifying feeling. If that fails, throw up the white flag and ask for help. :surrender:
The more I learn about carbines the more I realize I do not know. I get stumped lots of times but have a good resource of guys that seem to know more about certain manufacturers than others. Have also learned there is a exception to the rules sometimes. I only know what I have found and reported. There is some very deep knowledge at the CC. Contribute and you will learn in the process. I enjoy my herd. Still looking for the bull. (Commercial Control carbine)
Good luck on that one. You know, when there is a bull, there is bull$hit. Don't step in it.Quote:

I got to say that you all are right. I honestly enjoy the good company and the helpful attitudes. As far as me learning? I just hope that one of you guys are planning to leave me all your notes and your brain in your last will and testiment (cause thats the only way I am going to ever learn all this stuff!!!).

Marcus if you find 1 of 239 made I will have to make another trip your way just to see and hold it.
Jim,
He has Winchester EXP A, one of two. EXP B is in War Baby. Three groove barrel and all. Is that not worth a trip East? He'll even do a little night hog hunting with you if you like. But stay out of the Jeep.
Roger,
I tried to stop by on my trip to the Ohio show last month. Weather, Mother's Day, Timing, it just didn't work out. When I can I will try another trip. Being now retired :dancingbanana: has it's advantages.
Did he send you his pictures of the Jeep when the hog turned it over?
wtmr, If I were you, I wouldn't tell Bubba-7 any more stories.
Sorry, but it has been slow. I do enjoy his hog hunting stories. You know, some people can carry a tell.
well the jeep never got turned over by the hog, it was my attempt to run over the hogs after us having run out of shells-was a father son bonding moment that father got to spend night in hospital and father is still in doghouse over, rightfully so-one of my numbnuts moments-needless to say my son was not impressed with my driving skills nor was my wife and for that matter nor I-on good side was experience that may save my son from doing something stupid on his own some day
Ok, you guys are making me want to hear the WHOLE story. And there was a carbine involved in all this?
So when do I get an invitation to go "Hog hunting"? I can bring my Inland line-out Rock-Ola or my Underwood line-out NPM for the hunt.....
Jim, from the sound of it, they don't need more carbines, they need someone to bring ammunition - or a drivers license...
That reminds me of the time when I was ....
Just came across this read.
WTMR,
Sounds like your luck with Jeeps runs along the same lines as your past Motor Home Rental Experiences.
Thinking maybe your better suited to be a passenger :surrender:
And if you recall a past phone call we had... your wife stated......... "None of his answers or explanations make sense"
LOL,
Charlie-painter777
yeah--bought the same! that is life!
Well don't get embarrassed and hush up about any of it.
It sure is quality entertainment
A Good Weekend To You Marcus,
Charlie
I'm SO glad this thread was pulled back up because somehow I never read page four about hunting hogs with Jeeps.
Out of all my craziest hunting adventures, I've never heard anything so funny and laughed so loud I woke my wife up!
(Not a good idea early Saturday morning) :bitch:
