I am looking for a belt with pouches to put my M1 garand clips in and also my M1 Carbine magazine. Will the Garand clips fit into the 2 pocket Carbine pouches from WWII?
I see some with a belt and 5 pouches that have buttons on the back that buttons to the belt. Would the En Bloc Clips fit inside this type? thanks
CMP has some Greek manufactured copies of the M1910 for a decent price.

I tried the clips in the carbine pouches and found them extremely tight. Stick with a cartridge belt. Advertise here on the WTB forum and you shall receive.
The WW2 USMC belt with the 5 snaps is the narrow , fit into belt loops , size of belt. I've heard a lot of stories about these. They seem unsuitable for combat load carring of 10 carbine mags , and if they were used for that , why are they so rare ? The USMC also had a string-tied pouch which has been called an " Officer's bag " , a "Personal Effects Bag" , and a "Demolition Bag". I believe it was made for one use and adopted for the others . Anyway , one story was that the belt was used to quickly wrap the high explosive around a pole , beam , etc. or to tie a rope to so as to pull it along the ground . Being blown up would account for the rareness of the bags and belt.
There is a wide , M1936 type belt with 10 or so snaps that the USMC adopted in the late 50s / early 60s . It was to carry 5 single pouches for the M14 Mags. The excess snaps was to allow placement with various load combinations.

I put 5 Carbine pouches on that belt. One is in a bit awkward spot when wearing it, but it will work.

Oh , yes , I did not mean they wouldn't fit , just that the above set up was not WW2 correct . I would not be surprised if the above was used by some carbine armed advisors back in the day.

Also , in answer to the OPs question , I believe the later WW2 production pouches with the two belt loops was made a little roomier to take both , but I've never checked it out.

I was referring to the thin belts with 5 buttons, and the 1943 era pouches that had a button on the back that allowed them to be attached to the belt. I bought the set up and will see if they fit.
What confused me was the 2 pocket pouches made in 1957 I've seen that actually say for M1 Carbine or Rifle. I was wondering if the WWII ones were the same size so they could accept both carbine and en bloc clip.
I never got them to fit. Too tight.
I think Chris is correct. The later carbine pouches with the two loops on the back are a little larger.
Have you tried them? I seem to remember they'll fit, but I went looking for one when I first read this thread and can't find it.
I haven't gotten the pouches yet, got some off ebay and should arrive early next week.
I saw many soldiers who's weapon was the Garand. They would use bandoleers and then hang clips off any place they would fit; straps of web gear, shirt pocket flaps, the shirt itself at the button area, on the rifle sling. They go on like a clothes pin. They only used the cartridge belt pouches when everything else was gone. I'd just sling a couple of bandoleers over my shoulder, put the empty clips back in the pouches. That 7 clips per bandoleer. If you are going to wear a cartridge belt, make sure to use suspenders, that's the way it is done. They are an easy way to carry the weight. Everybody used the suspenders.

After receiving the 5 pouches and 5 snap belt, I've discovered that the pouches do not attach to the belt? This is probably common knowledge to some on here, so what do the early carbine pouches attach to and how?
The carbine pouches attatched to the snap on the front left of the pistol belt. What belt did you get??

You can see from the photo that this type pouch has wider compartments. This type will hold a garand clip fairly well as I remember.

The older khaki pouch on the right side has one full width backing that slips over a belt and has a snap in the middle so it can attach to pistol belt and not slide back and forth. (Some call this type a 'stock pouch' because they fit over a carbine stock)

That's the type of belt I thought you were talking about. Won't the snap attach, or is the snap the wrong size? I think the USGI snap was a standard size.
'If' that's the case, I'd say either the belt or the pouches aren't USGI (?)
Another downside, if I'm understanding your need correctly, is the pouch type with the snap inside has smaller pouches and a full garand clip is a very tight fit at best.
Maybe I don't know how to attach the pouches to the belt. Does the back of the pouch metal piece snap into the buttons on the belt? If so, I must be missing something.
Yes, if it's like it is on a pistol belt it should snap right one. It's a bit firm sometimes but not terribly so. Sounds like there's something here to get to the bottom of.
This shouldn't be so difficult and I'm sorry to hear you're having such bad luck. I've seen these older type pouches mounted onto one of those thin pant sized belts. I think JimF4m1s has one with the pouches mounted onto it, or he showed a photo of one before(?)
I seem to remember these thin belts were Vietnam issue and actually used for carrying some type of ordinance as well(?)

Are the pouches you have original issue or reproductions? I figured if you're using them for utility they're probably reproductions and I wonder if that's the issue. I wonder if they make snaps in metric sizes and that's what are used on some reproduction pouches.
This is the actual item. I'll probably not use this in the field but keep as a collectible.

Another late and probably not very helpful though -
Have you considered using a standard pistol belt for carrying your ammo and shooting? The pouch types you have fit pretty snug on a USGI pistol belt even unsnapped and don't walk back and forth very easily. I think that having the pouches on a pistol belt (even if not snapped) would be sturdier and more comfortable, and also easier to get ammo out of than the thin belt would be even snapped to it. I have a few older USGI pistol belts around here with little collector value because the markings are faded and I'll give you one of them to put an end to this if you're interested. It's very possible your pouches will snap onto a USGI pistol belt anyway because I just tested a repro pouch on two of mine and it snapped onto them just fine.

Just kidding. I bought it at a militaria show where the real S. Sgt. J.B. Stokes of Easy Co. (Band of Brothers) happened to turn up so he could sign it instead of a piece of paper. He was a local vet who still lived in his little hometown outside of Dallas and used to pop up at gun shows and things once in a while. He looked like a big mean bulldog but he was as nice as they come.
I couldn't find an authentic pouch or much of anything authentic at that particular show for less than twice it's market value for worn out junk so I bought the new pouch and the BOB book so he could sign it.

Now I understand the problem. Greystone need an actual pistol belt. Then no more problems.
Put a drop of oil in the female snaps . Check to see that the wire springs inside are free to move , they have to expand to let the stud pass , then snap behind it. Check for dirt build up or rust , etc. Should fit if USGI. If still won't , align them on the carpeted floor and gently press them with your heel till your weight is upon them or you hear/feel them snap. If they still won't go , something is whacko big time.

Hi Chris, from everything I understand both the belt and pouches are brand new and he's tried different one's on different snaps and none come close to snapping under any pressure.
Something sounds rotten (repro?) in Denmark at this point.
I had a bunch of the buckles in my hold baggage (then threw them away).
From what I've gathered that type belt did come from the Vietnam era Dave. Regardless the snaps were the same size as the standard snaps on the carbine pouches.
Since all of the pouches are brand new and all exactly the same they're almost surely reproductions. Considering the QC of any of these repro items they may be a whole new series of pouches from China and the only spec they had was that it fit on a carbine stock and have some kind of snap that looks like the originals had.
A micrometer should be able to tell you easy enough.
Well, the belt and pouches evidently were not compatible so I sent the item back to the seller.
Good, now since you've seen some examples of pistol belts you know what to look for.
