I personally have been coveting a pre 64 Model 70 Winchester in .270 Winchester for a while now. I also would love to get a Model 52 Winchester .22 lr
I like bolt action rifles of all kinds.

I am with you. My passion is milsurps but I have a deep interest in firearms of all sorts.
The pre war 70s have a great reputation, in fact, before I was of age I always wanted a pre war model 70, in any calibre. What I got was a M96 swede .. and here I am 26 years later !
No no, I've got all kinds. I collected Winchesters, civilian handguns. And have other hunting rifles. I don't hunt anymore, but when I did I had stopped carrying military type rifles for some years. They were way heavier than civvie.
I have a few civvie firearms also. I have and carry everywhere a 1911 Colt model 1908 Vest Pocket Pistol in .25 (almost had to shoot a pit bull tonight while out on our evening walk), I have a 1951 Winchester model 94 30-30, Remington 7400 .270 and Savage 99E in 300 Savage. Just to name a few but I love guns of all makes and models :)
There are a few exceptions but overall if it goes bang I like it, most of my collection consists of milsurps but i do have a few civilian sporting guns. My favorite is a post 64 model 70HB Varmint in .243, it and I were made the same year- 1968. The one I have always regretted selling the most is a Ruger M77 International Carbine in .250-3000 Savage. I've been looking for another one for years but so far have'nt seen one, in any caliber.
About the only categories I DON'T pay much attention to are modern shotguns and semi-auto hunting rifles (i.e. Remington 742s, BARs) Exceptions? A Winchester 101 28 ga. Quail Special (very nice!) and a .308 Model 100 that I just can't seem to bring myself to sell because everytime I pick it up I like it enough to keep it.
I really enjoy shooting my Winchester Model 1905 (three digit serial number made in 1905) in 35 WSL cal. I make the brass by turning down the rim on 38 special and can almost always find the "hard" cast bullets. Fun to shoot a semi auto made in 1905 !Attachment 25205Attachment 25204Attachment 25203
I saw a 1895 Winchester in 30-40 Krag on Gunbroker last night as well as a 721 Remington in 30-06. the 1895 is one of the few lever guns I like the looks of though they are out of my price range. If I could get the kids to eat less I could buy more guns. Suppose they would go for it?
That is a nice looking rifle RCS. That would make it three semi autos I would like to own and the only civilian model, The other two being a Garand and an M1a.
I think just about anything pre WW2 is interesting and potential fun. Also quite fancy a go at cowboy-action ... it's just the dressing up bit that puts me off.
I've got a 1946-47 model 70 in .270 that I really like.
I enjoy busting clay birds with my 12 ga. O/U

Jim

Two Pre 64 Winchesters - 1 in 22 Hornet - 1 in 257 Roberts. I have a 1954 Remington 760 "5 Diamond" in 257 Roberts, an early Browning BLR in 257 Roberts and a fantastic Custom Remington Rolling Block with the original early "Sporter" Butt Stock (checkered) circa 1907 and a heavy 26 " Barrel scoped with a 3X9 Redfield (Widefield). Last but certainly not least, a post WW2 SAKO Sporter stocked with euro walnut in of course, 257 Roberts. All are scoped and the Model 70 in 22 Hornet proudly wears a 10X Lyman Super Target-Spot
I'm right partial to my 95% Winchester Model 42 with factory 3X wood, skeet choked 26 " barrel with the solid mat rib, all factory original.
Big pic from top left S&W Mod 10-6",10-4",13-3",18, 19-2 1/2", 581, top right 29-4",34-2",43-3 1/2",64-2". That's some of the ones that get shot lots. The small pics just enlarge a bit.
II would like to have a early winchester 22 cal gallery gun
I primarily collect old milsurps. But I do have a number of Smith & Wesson revolvers.
A 32 H.E. , M&P 38 spl, 38/44 H.D. , 38/44 Outdoorsman, K-22, 25-2, 27-2 and a 28-2.
Great shooters all. :)
Like browningautorifle I prefer the use of Hogue grips.
I also have a few civilian target rifles, Remington 700 VTr and Anschutz 64.
Take care,
Chubby 308
I really enjoy my K-38 with the custom grips, just installed another hand a few years ago (oversized) got this K-38 at a nice reduced price - the owner said it was broken and would not fire double action. Also like my Model 25 in 45 Colt. My S&W Russian 44 cal was made in Italy and sold by Navy Arms, took along time to make those fake pearl grips.

Was it a single action only model from Smith? That's a hard to find variant. Have one in the box being "useless", but couldn't pass it up.
The K-38 is single action, has the four screw side plate and 8 3/8 inch barrel. Joe Salter had a K-38 single action for sale not long ago, same grips too
Attachment 25432Attachment 25433Attachment 25431 My accidental Beretta collection. Storm in .40, stainless 92 in .9mm, 96 in .40 changed from DAO to D/S, 948 in .22 LR, 950B in .22 short, 71 in .22 LR. I drew the line at buying a 34 and 35 together because that wasn't the purpose of this thing...to own every gun in the world. Or is it? Am I wrong here? And be aware, if you guys keep this up, I still have more stuff...
I have enjoyed converting these Italian black powder revolvers to use cartridges. These revolvers were found incomplete at gun shows. Now building a collection. The 1851 Colt conversion (38 cal) has an excellent balance and nice to shoot. The 1861 conversion is not quite the same as the 1851 in balance ( the barrels are too long)
RCS, I've always liked the look of the early revolvers but I don't own any anymore. I had a Colt 1860 Army in 44 C&B, a Colt 1873 in 45 Colt and a Rmington Army in 45 Colt. Sold them to friends who needed them more that I did. They were all repos anyway.
Speaking of Reminton's children, here's a few. Top down, Model 34 rifle in .22, model 77 Nylon in .22, 760 Carbine in .308 with an old Weaver steel body fixed 4 that's been carried many miles in many provinces. Last is the closest I'll ever get to the military shotgun. I built it myself and it sure takes the heavy loads nicely. The sling is actually a 1944 marked canvas M1 sling with thin slider. I told you guys I had a few of them around here.
Question, have any of you seen or owned the little Remington 34 like the top gun? I've only ever seen three including this one. I've owned it since getting it from my great Uncle when I was about 14 or so. He was USMC in 1919-1923 and taught me to shoot with it when I was about 8 or so. The Nylon is a bit scarce but I'm not up to speed on how scarce. It doesn't matter anyway, it isn't in great condition. Sure shoots great though!
The Nylon 66 is "Apache Black", IIRC. Somewhat less common than the usual brown ones, but not "rare". The rare nylons are the bolt actions- I forget the model number. Also, in the 66s, Kmart sold a green stocked version, but I've never seen one outside a Kmart! I have a fairly freckled finish lever action Nylon 76.
Oh, here's a link about the "Nylons":
http://www.chuckhawks.com/rem_nylon_rifles.htm
Say, is your Nylon a 66 or a 77 (detachable box mag version)? The 77 would be much less common, according to the above.
The little bolt action wood stocked Remingtons turn up around here from time to time, but are usually brown, rather than blued. Nice ones are scarce.
Yes the levers are scarce, but the worst are the smooth bores. Mine is just a plain jane tube in the butt. Although the receiver looks blueish it's all chrome. I had a brown 77 at one time and believe me the mag is more trouble than it's worth. I also had a CBC from Brasil. They are aparently made on the same machines and are identical. When I found this one, it was a pile of parts and no one loved it. I ordered a new barrel band for it and away we went.
Some Smiths that were at the range yesterday, along with some other stuff.

Guess what? The 625JM was a misfiring &$&%^#& with two types of factory ammo. Again with the 625s! Never have a problem w/ the 1955 .45 ACP.
Yes, I have a 625. Perfomance Center and BOY are they expensive here in Canada! It wasn't what I started out to get. The dealer said full underlug, round butt, stainless in .44 mag. That's a different gun. That's what I wanted. When this one arrived I didn't like it until I shot it a bit. What an accurate gun. I load down a bit and use Fed 150 primers and 225 RN lead. Very pleasant to shoot. If I use factory, I have to crank the strain screw up a bunch. By the way, I just love that bottom gun!
My favorite is the HK MK23.
Speak softly but carry a big stick, should be etched on them.
The m14 will always be my favorite rifle, right now I'm into the Remington 700 sniper type rifles oh is that still classified as military? Ok how about the 10/22 those are not issued to any military, right? LOL.
One of my favorite pics is an Israeli sniper in the Gaza strip. He's hunkered down in a rockpile and is perfectly matched with his surroundings. The pic is from up high and behind. He's glassing with a Ruger 10/22 with an integral supressor and huge scope. Imagine the surprise on some clowns face, about to throw a firebomb and get a new third eye. Never heard a thing!
Ah, the old model 10 with half penny front sight and all! We still have two of those in control stations. Unreal! I carried a S&W model 19 for years until I was able to talk them into letting me take the Glock transition course and then I got to carry my first generation model 22.
I have a number of revolvers also. What do you call spent brass from a revolver?

Dinosaur droppings!
Sounds like a cool picture, I've seen other photos with IDF personal holding 10/22 supposedly they also use them to silence hairs dogs before they raid a hide out.
Bill, when I was done the regular army I went to Armoured Car for 5 years. I started with Loomis and was carrying a Mod 10-10 HB. I went to a small company for day work only and I had a Mod 15, because no one else wanted it. They thought it would explode if you fired +P out of it. OK says I, I'll have that one. What a nice gun.
Our department is still using S&W model 66 revolvers. They told us we were going to the Glock 22 over a year ago. But California is so broke I don't think it will ever happen.
My favorite commercial rifle is/was a TC Model 87 "Hunter" (single-shot) with a barrel in .308Win. I bought the rifle with a view to adding extra barrels; got it in the 'magnum' configuration that would allow both 'standard' and 'magnum' caliber barrels to be used. Odd-ball kind of rifle I bought on a whim many years ago and just recently gave to my youngest son out in ID after I lost function in my left arm. At the bench the rifle was a 'deliberate' sort of thing; break action like a shotgun for those who don't know the rifle.
A good friend of mine had one of those in .308 in the '80s. Also an XP100 fireball. Both in pistol form. What a handful for one handing. I don't recall hitting much.
The Thompson/Center Hunters weren't made very long were they? It's been years since I've even heard of one. Saw a few when they first came out, but that's about it. Seem to remember a recall or something.
