I've been looking for a late, original M1A1 like my late Dad was issued in WWII and this one caught my eye. However, I'm no expert on these by any means, never even had one in my hands that I felt was real. Does this one look like it could be authentic? The prospective seller is offering a 3 day inspection, which I think is a good sign.

Check the sellers completed auctions. He has been trying to sell that carbine for quite awhile. So, it's either a sleeper or it's too high priced.
Ask the dealer to send you better pics of the stock out side and inside, also the butt plate inside (for any parts no`s) and the rivets. That might help some
I agree with topaz and was going to say the same thing - see if he'll send you some pics of those details.
With as much feedback as he has you'd think he'd know he needed to post a lot of details for such a big ticket item, but you never know. Send him a message to see how he responds and that could be a key of who you're dealing with. If he's open and responsive it could be a sleeper that nobody has investigated.
Thanks for your input, guys. I'd been watching this M1A1 for a while now and although it looks good to my inexperienced eye, it's hard not to wonder why it isn't bringing any interest because the reserve seems to be in the ball park if this carbine is indeed original and correct. I couldn't help but note that some of the pix were blurry and when we see pix like that it raises suspicion, whether unfounded or not. I wasn't looking for a part-by-part critique, just a yes or no from those here on this forum whose opinions and expertise I've come to respect.
Because it is not original nor is it correct. The carbine looks to be correct, as does the stock, but the two did not leave Inland together as an assembled M1A1.Quote:

Brian isn't the only one who knows......You guys need to do a lot more studying on the M1A1. Then you'll know too.
That price is crazy, no wonder he can't sell it.
