My First M1 Garand
I recently aquire my first M1 Garand which is a H&R Arms, it has a new Criterion Barrel and from what I can tell thus far as I havnt disassembled completley its should be about 90-95% HRA with some SA parts.
It has the P in the Square on it, but Ive only seen the P in circle so dont know about this mark
and I was wondering about the left side of the rifle where the stock and hanguard are, it appears that the stock is a little wider then the hanguard.
Is this normal for the Garand ? I posted some pictures of the rifle
I am not that familiar with Garands as when I entired the military it was the day of the M14..
Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks...

I saw a pretty decent looking, Korean war era, H&R for $1224 at Cabelas today.

From the pics, it looks like an almost new M1. The wood looks to be all matching birch and almost new. Don't worry about the overlap of the stock, if you recall the M14 had the same look at the back. Criterion barrels are respected for their accuracy. This one appears to be a shooter.

Amsdorf....WOW $1250.... guess my $700 I have in this isnt a bad deal then...
Jim....Thanks...It is in really nice shape, I haven't taken it down completely yet to get all the numbers, barrel is excellent like new and did notice Criterion mark and the defense *** marking on it as well
I was just wondering if the left side had a little too much stock our from the edge, but now that you mentioned it, the M14 has some of the same...
I wasnt sure of the wood if it was Birch or not...
THANKS !!!

Gunny, glad I made you happy in your investment.
I was amused as I heard the Cabelas guy explain to another customer why it was "so expesive."
But hey, Cabelas has a huge overhead to pay for. Of course, I did make a point of following the potential buyer out of the room the gun was in and I told him about the CMP program...he was happy to hear of it.
I must admit I was mightily tempted to tell the Cabela people, "Are you seriously asking that much for a 1950s model M1? Reallly? You should be ashamed of yourselves" but I realized that this is a management problem, and there is no point in making the nice employees feel bad. Seriously.
It made me feel good about how much i payed for my authentic WWII era M1 (receiver and barrel)
It's all goood.
:)

Also...as I scanned every single product on the shelf at Cabela's on my Iphone, I realized, I could pay a lot less on various online stores, but, there are excpetions, I got a great deal on some 9mm ammo for my son, by scanning it and seeing that the best price was the one offered by Cabelas...on line
The staff filled out the form, gave me the better price and...threw in a dry box for...I kid you not...a penny.
So...I left a happy customer.

Armsdorf
You did good filling that customer in on the CMP program using discretion, thats pretty nice, Cabella's for some things is a good place to shop and for others not so good. Their customer support is very good that I will admit, on the rare few occasions that I had problems with one of their items, they didn't hesitate to make good on it, least ways as for my experience,
In my area here, very seldom is there ever a Garand appearing in any of the Gun Shops and if there is it seems to automatically have a $1100 price tag or higher on it.
I just wanted one that was in the period of the Korean War finally I found one... :D
Now thats a great deal you did on the Ammo and Dry Box, heck cant beat that at all....
-
Nice looking M1 you've got there, In Canada most Garands seem to go for 1k+ ...I know my WRA did but man was it worth it.

Thanks D-Bomb.....Seems like the magic number on these Garands is a 4 digit price tag.... I've seen some good prices though up in your neck of the woods,
far better prices then down here, IE: Russian SVT 40 I've seen selling up your way for $300 ! down here if you find them at least $900 or better in VG condition
Oh man a WRA you cant beat that !!!! havnt seen many of those at all lately...

Now THAT is what I'm talking about Gunny Hooch!!! Lovely Garand!

Thanks Harlan appreciate it....
Salute...

Haha yes SVT's and SKS's are dirt cheap up here...However I would trade that in a second for somthing like the CMP to be available to shooters up here.
